Hello to all who view this post. I dug these bottles from a 1900's farm house site in two separate dumps. I think they are mostly from the 19-teens to 1930's.

They include medical, soda, and food bottles, one cruet, and a couple of intact drinking glasses. I have been using a steel probe and my Etrac to pin point garbage pits behind where the house stood. Found three dumps but only two were older, found a lot of big iron too.

I am hoping there are a few more pits on the property...I am beginning to like bottle hunting...too bad it's such hard work.

Thanks for tuning in and may the finds be with you.

Hey flyadive & Mucky,

I'm sorry, but you guys are incorrect. Cambria is right on in his age assessment.

The Tip Top Beverages is early Thirties, as is the Deco Nehi herringbone (if not later Twenties.) The Brevard County Power Co. bottle, is not only scarce and cool, but dates to the mid Twenties.

Hi Surf. Thanks for backing up the dates on my recent bottle post.

Based on what I know of the site, internet searches, and metal items I have found there, I believe most of the bottles are pre-1940. Some of them like the "Herb Juice" and "Dr Miles Medical Company" could be pre-1920 but I am having trouble pinning them down.

You gotta good eye re the "Brevard County Power Company" soda bottle! It is definitely 1920's, rare, and one my favorites!

cool bots. I like the Tip Top soda

Bottom line to me is that these bottles are very cool to a new collector of bottles or someone who occasionally finds bottles here and there. For me I have collected bottles for years and am at a point I would not dig a dump this new and would be buried up to my neck in bottles if I took every bottle I dug from this time period home. And since I used to sell a lot of my finds ,bottles of the time period of the finds posted above simply have little or no value to most bottle collectors. But like anything if you like it collect it .

Thank you Gaspipe, couldn't have said it better. The only modern bottles I keep are Bromo's and Coke bottles, Bromo's because the artsy fartsy folks pay top dollar for bottles that have little or no value to a collector (Unless they are hand blown w/ an applied top)

For example:
Cobalt Blue Bromo Seltzer Emerson Medicine Bottle Toronto from victoriasjems on Ruby Lane
Antique Cobalt Blue Emerson Drug Co MD Bromo Seltzer Bottle No Reserve | eBay
Vintage Bromo Seltzer Drug Bottle by HickoryValley on Etsy

I have milk crates full of these things and sell them for 5 for 25...people need to do their research. I almost feel bad..

If 20th century bottles are your thing, go for it. I prefer 19th & 18th Century (if intact). Just to the me craftsmanship is there vs machine made bottles.

I'd kill to find pre-1900 bottle dumps on a regular basis, but most of the dumps around here are from the 1930's. I'll take what I can get, though. I made over $800 last year just on 1930's bottles. Hard work to dig and clean hundreds of bottles, but I like the thrill of the hunt.

You never know what you're going to find at a 1930's dump. Is it yet another Blue Seal ketchup bottle or is it a 1920's Coke bottle? Let's dig it up and find out!

I think those coke bottles are pretty cool.

I just wanted to share a picture I like to refer to when looking at coke bottles- you can't be from my area - atlanta- without a little bit if coke knowledge ;) also-nice bottles you have there!

Look where you live compared to where he lives...you have access to much older bottles than he does.

People who collect coke bottles, etc. Are in a very niche group. Almost cult like.

Nice bottles. Wish I was physically able to go privy digging. There's a restaurant about 15 miles from here that has a large collection of old bottles and some nice bitters bottles.

They don't have to be privies, any unfarmable land has potential bottle dumps.

Right you are MuckyBottles. All the bot's I found were in two garbage dumps...follow the iron and pick the bottles. Thanks for the reply and HH. C9

I would go a stretch further, for instance. Most of my quality bottles I find are 90% sunk in river mud. Given the terrain by me, its take a long time digging through many 5 gallon buckets full of shards before getting any quality bottles, so second behind bottle dumps, I like to hit river banks/tidal rivers...then privies.
