Wanna see some rocks?

Lava,rode iron, no idea. Ill bring the lava pictures later. This rock i found in a lake in Califonia.

looks like granite. It is a very popular rock especially around the Sierras, Yosemite, and such.

I was thinking essentially the same thing. My thought was perhaps pegmatite which is basically granite but the "grains" are much larger. Pegmatite is composed of the same minerals as granite, feldspar, quartz and mica but as I said, the grains are much larger. Pegmatite veins occur within granite and may contain semiprecious gem stones. Cool rock.

I found it at 3,000 feet on a mountain that has volcanic activity. Mt.Shasta northern CA.

Resized the photos. Now that I can see them better, I really like those rocks. Do you collect from different areas of the country when you're on trips? I do, and its a fun thing to do...another hobby.

No, my Aunt Sandy just gives them to me sometime. Sometimes i find them. ill post more tomarrow.

Doesn't look like Granite to me. Could you get a better close up of the surface?
(Try using Macrofunction on camera, marked by a yellow flower)

The white stuff could be Albite, Calcite or plagioclase. Is it scratchable with a knife?
