What a heartbreaker!

Went to a nearby elementary school last night and hunted for about an hour. Was finding the typical kid-junk, clad and trash when I saw it at the bottom of the hole.....

Silver! BIG silver! "Holy ****, a half dollar!" It was gleaming in the bottom of the hole, and as I plucked it out, my imagination was running wild with thoughts of Lady Liberty. As I brushed away the little bit of dirt clinging to the front, my confusion began. "Who IS this guy??" I was still convinced that it was silver until I saw the date. 1979 and some weird foreign coin.

Weird is right. This coin is stainless steel! I think it would have fooled all but the most veteran diggers. It came out of the ground gleaming. Oh well. Still kind of a neat find. I would have walked right over this with my White's, but when running my Tesoro I set the disc just inside the high end of the iron range and dig everything. Thanks for looking.

Ok, It's not silver, BUT!, I always enjoy finding "off shore" coins, wondering how the heck did they end up here? Over the years I've found coins old & new from some 40 different countries. It's not silver, but a Italian coin in Idaho? Good find.

where I hunt, most of the good signals are not so it is a real surprise for silver to be there. my last "omigosh" turned out to be a bustly lady token, I was shaking for a moment but it is what it is and it ain't what it ain't

Regardless of it being stainless steel and more modern, it's still a great find! That will fit in well with your "memories" collection.

I have found so many foreign coins that look like an ancient coin I cant count the times, and how about the Tokens ,those president shell tokens or the Canadian dollar coin I also found a pile of quarters gold plated. LOL i feel your pain and share your excitement. last week I found what i thought was an American silver dollar only to discover it was an Australian Crown. At least my Crown turned out to be a pretty good keeper and every bit as good as a silver dollar.
