Could you post some larger pics? I'm wondering if this ring is a result of the 1715 Hurricane that wrecked ships from Spain to the Americas? In what state do you live, if you don't mind me asking? As you probably know, the symbol on the top of the ring is not a German swastika.

Really great find, Breezie

Interesting find! But better and closer pics needed!

Not sure what it is, but got me interested in the topic and here's a pretty decent page on some 1715 rings.

It's unfortunate that a symbol used for over 3000 years in many cultures, usually as a symbol for goodness and hope, has become so tainted because of one groups use of it.

History of the swastika symbol.

Hope you find out where and when that ring came from. :icon_thumright:

Well those are examples, and not a ID chart. The "Malta" is very common for northern Indians like the Cree. Don't think they're from Malta? :laughing9:

Very cool find! :icon_thumright:

The 1715 ring is referring to the copper ring that I found, not the gold ring that belongs to the museum. Sorry for the mix up. I've taken some more pictures, hopefully they are a little bit better.

Thanks.

Ok, now that makes more sense because I thought it was a pretty odd choice for a file name for a recent find. (and I should read things twice I guess) I've actually busted a person or two posting a fake find because they weren't smart enough to save the file as a different name. :) (probably why I noticed it)

Did you find anything else old in the area you dug the "1715" ring?

well when i first looked at it i put a little olive oil on it. the date looks like it,s almost raised. to make sure i was,nt loosing it i took it to a jewler and ask him to look at it with out telling him what i saw,so he could tell me what he saw. when he looked at ti he looked up at me and was realy surprised and said thats not what he thinks it is ? is it? than he said what i saw, he could not believe the date was in deed 1715 i was sure what i saw then.

Hello Messick. I would sure like to help but the pics are just too small. Is there anyway you could post larger pics, and post the 1715 mark in a closeup? Use a macro lens setting and/or take the pic thru a loupe. If not, can you tell us what it says on the badge?

Over in Vietnam that symbol is everywhere its Buddhist its on graves buildings temples etc.
To Buddhists this symbol is "Chu Van," the mark of Enlightenment. It is found on medals, decorating pagodas, and on breasts of Buddha statues. Nice ring

The museum ring is most likely symbolizing good luck and IMO looking toward the 1715 fleet is the wrong direction for the copper ring. Afterall it was not found on Floridas coast and it is not gold or silver..

I tried to enlarge the shield but I still cant read it because there is not enough resolution. Can you tell us any part of the inscription? This would be a good item to google.
