All,

I dug this iron buckle near a home built in the 1820s and occupied ever since. It was once a farm house but has been part of suburbia since the 1950s. Other finds include square and round nails, other iron whatzits, coins from 1940 on along with a few pieces of aluminum siding.

Before posting I looked at several iron buckle posts on TNet assuming a buckle similar to mine has already been IDed. Not finding any take a look at the attached pictures. Although I’ve removed some of the rust with a brass brush, there is still plenty to think the buckle has been buried for a while. Any thoughts on what the buckle was used for and its approximate age are appreciated.

Looks like an iron belt buckle to me.

creskol, thanks it has that look. I know buckles can be hard to date, especially generic ones like this. Do you think 19th or 20th century?

My guess it the mid to late 1800's, but I am basing that solely by the degree of oxidation.
