Well I made it back from the Netherlands in one piece. Got a chance to do a little metal detecting but not as much as I would have liked. They have such strict laws on metal detecting it is unreal. It is illegal to dig deeper than 14 inches. If you find anything, it must be reported to the local Archeology Committee. They will then inspect the area and decide if it is a significant area. If it is, they take it over and you can't do anything more to the property until they release it. Could be a long time. Consequently, I had a very difficult time hunting anywhere there was private construction going on. There were quite a few houses around where I was staying that were having their basement floors lowered. They were being dug out and exposing soil that contained items from the 16th and 17th century. I kept getting permission to hunt by the contractors and being kicked out by the owners because they were afraid I might find something and they would have to stop work on their house remodel. Not fun. Not much to hunt out of town as all the fields were still in crop. Not having a car didn't help much either.

Well anyway, I found a few things and got to experience a new place to MD. Here are some photos of some items that made their way under my coil.

Well were you able to keep anything?

Most all of my family is from holland
Only my sister, parents and I are in the USA

I kept all the things I posted. I also have a pretty good collection of pipes - 1600's - 1800's. I have a couple of complete Delft tiles - 1700's - and numerous partials. I think I will mount them on some sort of serving tray and grout them in. The only things I had to leave were the goat horns. LOL

I would love some contacts for next summer. Knowing people is half the battle in finding places to hunt.

Do you hunt much over there or does anyone else in your family have the MD bug?

Daryl

Great job, Professor!

You came back with some wonderful coins and artifacts. Thanks for the description of the hunt and what it's like there.

Excellent post and congratulations on the finds!

I just started MDing. I don't think any of my family MD's.
Breukelen,Alkmaar, Limmen you might even try farms and the cow fields has lots of history. Problem there is yards are so small is cover with lots of flower gardens and sorts. and not much yard.
One of my uncles live in a old toll master house in Breukelen. I like visiting but too crowded to live there. I did when I was younger. I biked all over the place when I was there and do when I go there now. My parents are still amazed that I know my way around.

I talk to my uncle see what he says. tell me when do you plan your trip next.

Awesome post and finds! I went to a Constantine the Great exhibition several weeks ago in Trier, very nice display. Looks like you had a great time even with hard to come by sites to hunt. Probably a good thing you did not make it down to my area, you would have been disappointed in the finds, LOL. HH, Mike

Wow, I can't imagine finding coins that old but you just never know what you are going to dig. Of course we don't have the history like the Netherlands but there has been people around these parts for an awful long time.!! ;D ;D
