Does anyone else feel that it is extraordinary that multiple civilizations from around the globe, thousands of years ago, without the advantage of our "modern" technologies, have been able to track, predict and even, record astronomical events that occurred within, before and after their contemporary time frames? The absolute accuracy of many of the ancient civilizations on astronomical movement and even on the basic calendar time scale (the Mayan calendar is much more precise than anything we had until the advent of the Atomic clock) is MIND-BOGLING to me. This is not meant to impinge on anybody's basic believe systems but, please why is it so incredulous to believe that there have been past cultures and individuals that could foresee future events based on basic and advanced observations of our fragile (and actually, improbable) existence on this incredible sphere we call Earth. To those that wonder, well why didn't they prevent their own demise, as in the case of the Mayans (Toltecs, Olmecs and the varied and earlier ancient civilizations of the Southern Americas), I ask - how do we know what happened to them? Maybe, they scattered and reinvented themselves as progressively newer cultures, and contributed to the advancements of later cultures, the Aztec, Inca and Anasazi. Of course, I am only looking at the Americas in this "what-if". If you are truly interested in learning our future and fate, I truly think that history is the best teacher. The "Bible" is history, right, even older texts recount the same information that the Bible is derived from. The Aztecs and Incas both predicted that their teacher would return from the east, a bearded and fairer skinned and haired man, would return to continue the teachings that he had imported many years earlier. Actually, almost every extremely early civilization recounts the basic events of the Old Testament, creation, exile, flood,,. Not to mention the theme of prophets, a "Saviour", resurrection, destruction and salvation.
All I think is that, this little egg (earth) we exist on, in our fragile little wobble around the sun is improbable and fragile. The craziness we subject this little world to (pollution, Atomic detonations, drilling anywhere and everywhere drawing whatever we can from its core and the absolute disregard for the principles of balance, harmony and restraint) just might at some point "tip" the teapot over, especially if external forces in the galaxy are distorted during a rare (human time line) alignment of planets and the black hole of the Milky Way.
Hey, stranger things have happened - we were formed from clay, a breath, a single rib and only one guy and girl in fig leafs and the dinosaurs went "poof".
