Ok it is weird. It is not normal. I found it in the water years ago and has been in a brokes jar. It is not bi-faced. It is not uni-faced. It is no faced ? Really it is like a flake they just worked the edges. Maybe they were happy with the thickness? Anyone seen anything like this or maybe what type it might be?
I am hoping it is valuable and one of a kind ! Just kidding but it is a weird one.

Shaft Scraper of sorts. Believe it or not I am finding some strange tools in my new field. Most are only worked on the edges but even less work than yours has. You should do a strange tool thread, post yours.

But I have never seen one done like this. Scrapers yeah but this is in the style of a point. What point I do not know. Speculating and running wild.

yeah, like a spoke shave,,,,clean off bark and twig nubs etc.

It actually looks like a first step reduction flake to me that they made a tool out of. I have some with that curve with the cortex still attached and the secondary flaking just on the edges. Just not that same point shape. The ones I have are thick also.

It looks like a piece that I found last summer. I thought mine was transitional, but was told woodland instead. My piece is about the same size as yours. The shape is the same, as well. Only difference I see is mine is crudely worked on one side. Large reduction for a piece this size. I'll see if I have a pic for comparison.



Not an exact match, but similarities are there. Still you have no closure on what it is.

I think an old reduction flake worked is about right. Just weird not being uni or bi,lol.

hey Richard...pure ole' d speculation, but that individual said " it is good enuf for my purpose." I would type it along with some similar points , in basic shape or form, from your neighborhood, and attribute to a journeymans' piece. (what jamey said)
At any rate it is good for saving in your strange and unusual pile.

I have a lot of strange and unusual ones. Like my worked limestone collection. Now that is strange.

That is cool. I have thin pieces with edge work like that but not all the way into a a base like that. It looks like it would work.
