What would you rather find...

If you could find one of the following coins and could never sell it, what would you rather find? :help:

-a BU Flying Eagle, Indian Head or Wheat Penny.
-a BU V, Buffalo or War Nickel.
-a BU Barber, Merc, or Roosie dime.
-a BU Commemorative, Barber, Standing Liberty or Washington Quarter.
-a BU Commemorative, Barber, WL, Franklin, 90% Kennedy or 40% Kennedy Half.
-a BU Commemorative, Morgan, Peace, or 40% Ike Dollar.

I decided to leave the odd balls out of this because I cannot remember them all but I believe there is a silver trime, a 3-cent nickel, a half dime and a 20 -cent piece, older versions (seated and bust), gold pieces and probably more. If you want to vote for one of those go right ahead! :thumbsup:

Remember, you can never ever sell the coin for profit so the question is what would you rather find and keep for your collection? For fun, throw in some dates and mint marks as well!!! :icon_sunny:

My vote is for a BU 1926-S Oregon Trail Commemorative Half Dollar with rainbow-toning. :thumbsup:

I would wanna find a BU 1921-D Merc. Yeah I know the 16d is rarer. But I'd have a seemingly better chance of finding one of these than the 16d in the wild..

My ultimate CRH find would be a 1969 S Dbl Die Cent! I would take it over anything... You could buy an 1856 FE 1c, 1916 SLQ, 1901 S Barber qtr, 1893 S S$, 1918/7 Buff 5c, etc...any of these coins if you had the money. They are up for sale every day. But that cent is friggin rare and only a few people out there have one. If one does come up for auction, you could get outbid and still not get it. The crazy thing is, THERE ARE a few of them out there RIGHT NOW, sitting in a bank cent roll, waiting for some CRHer like me to pull one and win the lottery! It drives me nuts!

That's my 2 cents worth! Guess I'll go get some penny boxes today...

A 1856 FEC in "G" condition goes for $6,000 and up, only 2,000 minted. How many were minted of the 1969 s DBL Die Cent? :icon_scratch:

Looked up a little info on that 1969 S Dbl die Lincoln Cent... PCGS has graded a total of 25 of them IN ALL GRADES. A recent auction for an AU53 on Heritage's website ended with a hammer price of $21,850 (August 2011). This is down almost half of what they were auctioning for just 2 years ago. (If you want one, get it now!) Uncirculated examples have sold for $100,000+. There is an MS63 Red example up for auction right now on Heritage... next bid is $50k, but I bet it sells for much higher. Ultimate cherry pick if you find one!!!

Somebody over on the coincommunity.com forum just recently found a 1992 Close AM cent. It's the fifth known. Probably not as valuable as the '69-S doubled die, but it's certainly rarer!

My ideal find would be a 1916-D in XF. No need to be greedy, and I need it to match the rest of my set.

There are a few things that I'd want, I'd like a 1916 (or 1917) type one Standing Liberty Quarter in MS/AU condition.

I wouldn't mind a Texas commemorative either.

And even though this is a large stretch to find CRHing, I'd like a Victoria Una and the Lion 5 pound gold piece or a Gothic crown.

Generic, your want list looks a lot like mine! I'm gonna have to settle for a gothic florin because I don't think I can justify dropping 3 grand plus on the crown. IMO, it's the most beautiful coin ever minted by mankind.

I was bidding on an MS64 1917 type 1 SLQ, but it went over $400 which was too rich for my blood. I'd collect standing liberties, which look amazing in high grades, but I think are rubbish in lower grades that I could afford. And I could never justify the 1916 regardless.

There are several of the early commemoratives that are amazing (I also like Connecticut a lot, the Pilgrim one, Oregon trail, Texas, Hudson and a few others), and I was thinking of collecting a type set of those, but some of those are pretty pricy, and half the set is kinda uninteresting.

I'm a big fan of the Britannia series of bullion coins, particularly those designed by Phillip Nathan. I can't afford the gold, but I might collect the silver ones when PMs come back down to Earth.

I really like the Polish 10 Złotych with Jadwiga, and it's something I could actually afford in a high grade, so I may pick up one of those if I see a nice one.

That's weird. I just noticed all my favorite coins feature portraits of women wearing hats and facing left. I'm also a big fan of Indian head cents, Mercury dimes and peace dollars, which all feature liberty wearing a hat and facing left.
