You should not reply if you don't know what your talking about... "Patina" is word that describes rust on metal objects... It has nothing to do with rocks.... I've seen you describe patina on two rock items now already... Your using the wrong word..

Keep @ it and HH !!

Ahhh.. Mabey you should look that up... you didn't heed your own advice.

Archaeologists study the patinas found on flint tools and ancient stone monuments.[1] Stone develops a corticated layer over time that is due to a range of complex factors. This has led stone tool analysts in recent times to generally prefer the term "cortification" as a better term to describe the process than "patination".[3]

Mud,, patina can also be an indicator when an item has recently been re-shaped or re-worked or damaged more so when dealing with things many thousands of years old compared to say a recent 200 year old relic find.

A fresh cut on an old rock will remove the patina much like your lesche hitting a 58 cal bullet.

Makes a shiny little line. I am sure you have seen rocks in fields hit by plows? You are incorrect in your assumptions.
Sorry to derail your axe thread.

Good luck in all your hunts
