I got this from a friend of mine to add to my collection not a 100% if its real he got it from a amish farmer who said he plowed it up over 20 years ago any guisses on what it mite be worth if it is real and any way to tell if it is real ?

No kidding dirt isnt patina? I never knew

You should not reply if you don't know what your talking about... "Patina" is word that describes rust on metal objects... It has nothing to do with rocks.... I've seen you describe patina on two rock items now already... Your using the wrong word..

I have to spend the day with the wife tomorrow. I tried to do some yard work today but it is so darn hot. I did most of it though.
 
I had soccer at 11 mowed then peewee football at 4 then cooked no rock time today for me just went through some of my buckets this morning I hope tomorrow brings me a Cumberland lol
 
Thanks for all the info, most of the stuff i find i dont sale i dont buy much stuff because of all the fakes out there but i took a gamble on this piece and i believe its gonna be a good center piece for my collection . Im gonna post some more pictures with it beside a ruler . Thanks again

Mud,, patina can also be an indicator when an item has recently been re-shaped or re-worked or damaged more so when dealing with things many thousands of years old compared to say a recent 200 year old relic find.

A fresh cut on an old rock will remove the patina much like your lesche hitting a 58 cal bullet.

Makes a shiny little line. I am sure you have seen rocks in fields hit by plows? You are incorrect in your assumptions.:thumbsup:
