Some years back I was working for Xerox Corp. in S. Cal. It was back when there were lines of cars at the gas pumps and gasoline was about $.70 gallon. One of our coworkers ended up buying a little Honda to improve his gas mileage. About once every week or two he would come into work and brag about the miles per gallon he was getting on his new car. A few of us got kinda tired of hearing about it and figured we'd get back at him. We started taking turns ADDING gas to his tank. The miles-per-gallon stories started to really get good then.
This went on for a number of months and the stories got better and better. It wasn't him telling us how great his mileage was so much as he was telling EVERYONE. Others, folks that didn't know what was going on, seemed to be getting annoyed by his BS stories and began to shun him as he was swearing to the truth of the matter. Finally, when he was getting about 70 mpg, we told him what had been going on. I think, if he could have, he would have worn a paper bag over his head while at work.
