Found an 1876-cc seated dime in a brinks box about a year ago, see attached pic. At first I saw only the reverse and thought it was a barber dime, until turning it over to see the real find.
In 2001 at a bank I asked a bank teller for any rolls of .50 pieces she had. She asked why and I told her I collect silver. She gave me a roll and said take these because they are old. She also said she had a loose half in her drawer that was black looking and old. She gave me that one as well. I paid her face value for everything. The old roll of coins was all Franklins. The loose black-looking (tarnished) was an 1844-O half dollar. Believe it or not I married her.
Please , a picture of the coveted 1916-D found in the WILD. I'm not questioning your post, but I'd love to see just ONE that somebody actually found, and not a picture from RED BOOK.
I guess I have found two. I have pictures of one and waiting patiently (over 5 years) for my brother to find the other he supposedly misplaced to get a picture of it.
It was 1955 in Oak Ridge Tennessee, I was 8 years old and new nothing about coins. My dad had a blue and white 55 Chevrolet that I really liked. So, I see this Penney in my hand all shiny and new with two dates on it. It stood out like a sore thumb. I showed it to my family members and no one new what it was other than a new Penney. Because my dad had that 55 chevy and I had that strange looking double die 1955 Penney I'll just carry it for good luck. Well, it didn't bring me much luck. One day I was standing in front of a bubble gum machine and wanted that gum bad. No money, then I remembered that 55 double die penny hidden in my Roy Rogers bill fold and I pulled it out, put it in the machine, got my gum and went about my day. Many years later after developing an interest in collecting coins did I understand the value of that special penny I found and carried it a year before spending it. Live & Learn!
Dug a 1921-D mercury dime in VG condition. Right next to a tree 7 inches down in a pretty hunted out park with my Ace 350. I still have it and all my other silver dug coins (an AU-58 1917 Mercury is the runner up at the moment!)
