What's Your Best Find In Your Own Yard?

I keep seeing threads from people finding cool coins and relics in their own yard. I've only actually detected mine once, and I did find a musket ball. I can't even tell you how many times I've driven over an hour somewhere to detect and come up empty handed, atht's why I get such a kick out of seeing people find good fings in their own yards.

First yard ,a 1870 silver Canadian 5 cent piece A+,called a fish scale about the size of an American 3 cent piece and a small time capsule from the early 60`s.The present yard only tried twice so far but found an awsome Victorian abbra cadabbra magic token.Never pass your own yard, detect it to death trying all your new methods.Even when you think its all gone it keeps coming.Great to have the exclusive rights ,and a bathroom & lunch right there.

Re: What's Your Best Find In Your Own Yard?

Oh how I long for a colonial era house. I live in a house built in the late 1960's. I've searched it no disc. and have dug EVERYTHING. I am confident that I've missed nothing. And my best find... 1 wheat cent from the 1950's. A bunch of clad and some 70's costume jewelry... Actually, I take that back. The best was a brass garden hose nozzle... only because I needed a new one at the time I found it. Still use it today.

Now if you're talking property and not house; my dad's property where I grew up has two 1865 era homesteads on it (his house itself was built by him in the early 60's). Our immediate yard was just unused woods before. But I have dug hundreds of bottles and relics from the old dumps on his property and plan to detect the homestead "yards" (which are in the woods now) this spring.

Re: What's Your Best Find In Your Own Yard?

To date ive found the following in my own yard. 1828 Large Cent, 18_0 Large Cent, 1859 Canadian Large Cent, 1840 Presidential Token (Harrison), 1889 Indian Head Penny, 1892 Indian Head Penny, 1942 Mercury Dime, 14K Gold Man's Wedding Band 3/8" wide, a hand forged padlock, and two aluminum tokens. So far its been a hotspot for me. I use a DFX detector. Its funny though, my bro-in-law uses same detector (DFX) yet he hasnt found anything but clad there? LOL. Happy Hunting all.

A large, silver man's ring. Didn't think to look for for missing stone in hole. Second best was a 1776/1976 Eisenhower silver dollar.

Re: What's Your Best Find In Your Own Yard?

My house was built in 1987 and I've only been in it about 3 years. I've found a few aluminum cans and a couple of memorial cents with my detector. My best find, though, was without the detector. I found about 50 arrow heads by a corner of the storage building in the back yard. I found them while raking some dirt for the wife to plant flowers. Evidently the previous owner had been an arrowhead hunter and threw his imperfect ones out by the storage building.

Geez...you've got a great yard, Dan! Can I come and "visit" you? ;D

After we dug out our dirt basement floor, dumped it in the backyard........and 160 dump truck loads of dirt was dumped into our back and side yard..I got a metal detector! Doh! :-\ :'(

I still think about my missed opportunity for some great finds. Our house was built in the 1850's.

I did find some treasure in the side yard and front yard. The oldest coin was a shield nickle. I've also found about 8 musket balls in the side yard....in addition to the 50 cazillion nails I found.

Re: What's Your Best Find In Your Own Yard?

My house was built in 1965 Hardly old enough to yield anything exciting...

WRONG!!!

Before my house was built there was a farm dating back to at least the 1860's. So far I a have found many coins going back to the early 1900's. I also found the number 6 sleigh bell and old spoons and it keeps yielding more! I only have a 1/4 acre lot, but I keep going back and finding more. These finds are how I got hooked on the hobby!

Re: What's Your Best Find In Your Own Yard?

gold wedding band.....that i thought i lost in another yard.....but was in my own!!!??

bank savings token.......

I detected my yard several times just after I purchased my detector, but when my wife dug a key up in our very small garden, it got me to thinking about not hitting a small area where she had bean plants. Anyway, this is what I found......(hope the pics come through)
A bank savings token that offers one penny when you open a savings account. Offer expires May of 1919.

Re: What's Your Best Find In Your Own Yard?

Funny story, all I have found is clad but the first time I let my son try, he found a mini-toy shovel in the ground about 2 inches deep at his grandmothers...he had no idea what he was doing and just swung the coil over the ground and found the shovel...we couldnt believe it!!!

Re: What's Your Best Find In Your Own Yard?

The Mercury dime in my avatar was the best find in my yard, and my first find with a metal detector. Hooked from the first dig! ;D Beginners luck!
