What's Your Best Find In Your Own Yard?

I keep seeing threads from people finding cool coins and relics in their own yard. I've only actually detected mine once, and I did find a musket ball. I can't even tell you how many times I've driven over an hour somewhere to detect and come up empty handed, atht's why I get such a kick out of seeing people find good fings in their own yards.

An old early 19th Century Cross about 6 inches long, even though our family had built the house on the property in 1980, and the closest ANYTHING to where our house was dating anything older than 20 years was an old wagon trail about 100 years old about 500 yards away. Now, that was a shock.

Not really, if it was found 500 yards from a wagon trail, odds are what you have was left behind with/on top of a grave for someone who died and was buried along the trail. Very common practice in those days. The cross would be laid on the top or placed just under the surface of the dirt. Then a wood marker placed on top. I have seen cases where a brass or metal cross would be nailed or tied to a larger wood grave marker. Even on a flat wood grave marker laying on the ground like a stone grave marker.

This is my best find in my own yard... I posted this recently on today's finds. Really got my heart racing when my brother and I pulled it out.

Manage an apartment complex here in Oregon built in the late 70s. So I was just hoping to pop out a few Wheaties, some silver or a piece of nice jewelry. Found a 1943 merc, an onyx ring I found out later from the owner was over $200 and an a 1900 Queen Victoria one cent. Pretty happy with those finds.

I have found a 1916 Merc, several Indianheads and Wheaties, 4 V-Nickels, camp lead, bullets and this:

I am so jealouse of ya'll, I havent detected my yard because it was pasture b-4 I put in the place, I guess I could as it was once sharecroped for cotton and theres a homestead about 200 yds away (that I have hammered), but I feel Id do better elsewhere, maybe I'll give it a run sometime, perhaps thats where The Cach is ;D

Same here. I have 6 acres I never really detected except to make a coin garden :) Mine was former pasture land as well, so doubt there is much in it. Maybe someday when I am bored I will check it out, but bet I find a TON of aluminum snippets from putting my soffet on.

I found my own class ring in my parents yard, but it was after I had moved out. Does that count?

:D :D :D

I can so sympathize. My home is 20 years old, is on what was pasture land and woodlot. I haven't found single coin, but in all metal mode I can dig my weight in iron any day I choose.

Prior house was built in the 30's and I found a Merc (I believe a '42) in the yard the day after my detector arrived in the mail. "YIPPEE! I thought, this is gonna be great!" Then I discovered the great scattered cache of steel and aluminum roofing nails. Ugh.
