Whatzit?

My wife ran across this in a box of her dad's stuff the other day and said he found it in a field years ago here in AL. Not sure if he was hunting arrowheads at the time or just out walking.

It appears to be stone, approximately 1" diameter. Seems too big to be a clay marble.

Any ideas?
