Robert Dunfield dug a pretty big and deep hole on Oak Island.

Was the big dig at the MP area or was the hole dug looking for flood tunnels?

I always thought dunfield dug the crater in the Money Pit but the attached pics seem to indicate he dug ig SW of the MP.

The green line shows the perimeter of his dig so the deepest part of his hole was not at the money pit.

Am i interpreting the pics correctly?

Based on that second pic no one was digging in the MP area.. Do take note of the 1st one how sloped the side walls are of his dig. Most claim his dig was 100' wide and 100 plus feet deep, but as you can see it will not be anywhere near that wide even just half way down... What we see there is maybe 35 feet deep and it is getting pretty narrow..

The first picture shows the wall of the heddon shaft which indicates it is within the green line shown in the second picture. So he was not digging in the MP

I found this video on the dunfield dig:

According to this video, dunfield was looking for treasure but if he was digging where the two pictures indicate, he wasn't digging at the MP.

I looked for threads that explained why dunfield dug where he did but the one thread i found quickly turned into a back and forth of proving each other wrong.

Based on picture 2, it looks like dunfield wanted to preserve the heddon and chapel shafts and kept the circumference of his dig to the SW of the two to keep them from falling into his pit.

So as he dug deeper, the center of his dig would keep moving to the SW and away from the MP.

I don't understand why?

My guess is he and others were trying to avoid the water. He should have been digging in the MP area with how he was digging compared to others.. Open it all up, pumping out water as you go so you can see what your digging..

With zero evidence ever presented that a “money pit” ever existed, who’s to say Dunfield was digging in the wrong place?

Dunfield’s excavations around the island proved that the fictional flood tunnels didn’t exist and that the only things to be found underground were the remnants and garbage left behind by the previous scammers.

May not have ever been anything there treasure wise but if you believe there was never a MP to start with then I guess you don't believe the original 3 guys ever dug a hole to start all this correct?

The “3 boys” told a story in the 1790’s.

Yet they dug nothing at the time and 30 years later returned to the island to dig (of course asking for investors at the time).

At the end of the day, the boy’s original story was a lie to cover staying out late while drinking or other tomfoolery.

That sounds right. They dug a hole to cover a lie about staying out late, years earlier!! That is one heck of a lie to then go get investors to help with the cover up!! Who where they lying too? They were early to mid 20's at the time.. Supposedly only 1 of them was part of the Onslow Group that came in next..

Here we go again. A post requesting for factual information gets hijacked for a back and forth.

Why can't treasurenet.com at least provide a thumbs down for the posts that are unwanted.

That's the problem. There is NO factual historical evidence of ANY treasure ever being placed anywhere on oak island.

Evidence has been requested here for years by perpetuators of an oak island treasure story.

The only responses given are an exponential # of DIFFERENT fictional treasure THEORIES and a large # of what-if's.

If you can't contribute with facts about the dunfield dig, then you should keep quiet.

I've contributed facts about the Dunfield dig for quite a while. Do yourself a favor and rather than continuing to ask newbie questions, read through all of the oak island threads here. Perhaps then you can learn more about the island and all of its history, especially the history of the scammers.

Ano NO, I will not keep quiet.

Reference for the newbies.

Dunfield proved that previous diggers were scammers. Note the reference to Heddon shaft.

It's hilarious when folks attempt to debunk Dunfield's findings by saying that his dig wasn't 100 feet wide at the bottom and thus "missed the treasure" yet claim that the fictional money pit was 10' or so in diameter.

Thanks for the diagrams. From my reading I understood that the dunfield dig revealed a 9ft x 9ft area at the bottom where they drilled through the limestone and into a void.

His plan was to create an opening into the void to access the money pit from below. However, he died before he completed his goal.

Do you know if that's true?

Dunfield gave up after observing he was digging into undisturbed soil.

There is no 'mystery' about what Oak Island was about, from the start searchers were using various copies of an 18th century 'treasure map' that was in circulation. Oak Island was just one of a number of islands searched by those thinkig they had found the right island for the map.

It was written and reported extensively about until the late 1960s when details about it were cleansed from the local archives to stop people learning about it and keep the money flowing in. One of the last books to mention this before the latter day lazy researchers took over is 'The Money Pit Mystery' (1972) by Rupert Furneaux.

Don't make the mistake that because you aren't told about it on the show or it doesn't appear in the various 'sources' they promote it's not known or not recorded in archives away from there.

Do youself a favour and look for yourself without the team feeding you only the information they want you to see.

Here’s a letter from Robert Dunfield himself explaining the natural limestone and water ways on the island.
