I was just thinking about why would someone bury treasure and then not come back an get it (for the sake of discussion).
So did a quick Google of found buried treasures
7 of the Biggest Treasure Troves Ever Found | Mental Floss

Firstly I wonder if the people that found these hoards ever got to keep them.. Probably not I would guess
Anyway getting back to original question I would hypothesize one of the following
1. The person/s who buried the treasure died
2. The person/s who buried the treasure were imprisoned/stopped from returning to where they buried the treasure
3. The location of the treasure was lost
4. The treasure was actually lost/dropped/building collapsed/burnt/left over from battle etc and no one new there was treasure there
5. What was buried was not that valuable at the time and has become very valuable later. The original buryier did not bother to recover it
6. The treasure was never meant to be recovered for some reason maybe spite/fear/religious belief etc
7. The treasure was buried with someone for their afterlife (ie the pyramids)
Of the above reasons (feel free to add more to the list) it is difficult to find a reason that would match Oak Island treasure speculations. If the legend speculation is accepted (Flood tunnels/170+foot etc) then there must of been a lot of people involved in the burying of the treasure in the first place. That gets rid of most of the reasons on the above list. The only two that could possibly still apply in my view are 6 and 7.
Anything else one would of thought the treasure hiders would of come back and got there treasure. Most people that bury something valuable do so to hide it for a short period of time before they recover it and turn it into spending money.
The problem with 6 and 7 is why would someone go to OI to do either?
To me a major problem with the whole Oak Island Legend (I know there are many) is that people think that someone buried a treasure hoard and DID NOT COME BACK and get it....
