Not only a ship, but hundreds of leather soles from shoes.. Much of lower Manhattan is all landfill that has steadily been building up since the 1700's. What is funny that at the lowest tip of Manhattan stands Fort Clinton, which was an island at one time and now home to Battery Park

I remember when I worked down there in the early 70's the street was at one time marked with the original boundaries showing where the original seawalls were. We just need more junk so we can fill in the Hudson river and join NY to NJ so we can abolish the tunnel crossing tolls

Isn't that wild making an 18th century connection to 9-11, one of the biggest events of modern day. Really gets you thinking!

If you ever get your hands on a book called "Mongo", there's a whole chapter dedicated to a guy who treasure hunts that old fill that has been excavated and dumped for one reason or another. Some of the stuff he finds was impressive.

I caught some of this on the news it is very cool and even more so to find something historic amidst so much tragdy!
