Yesterday was a hard digging kind of day. The targets were plentiful and I got into a batch of bullet sinkers and just hunkered down. Here is a picture of my boat at the end of the day....

Next up is a shot of all of the hand made sinkers, less the ones made out of bullets...

And now the bullet sinkers. Notice the Prussian...

Here are some bullets that were mixed in....

Next up are a couple shoe buckles...

P7210017.webp

Here are a couple of lead sinkers that have some sort of writing on them. I haven't been able to figure out what they are yet. Any ideas?

And a "blow through" fired bullet

Here is a really well preserved carbine sling hook....

And the "rest of the stuff" that I lugged into the house last night when I got in. More cow bell!

One underwater shot of the algae that grows in all of the creeks up here. It's not too bad until it floats up and creates huge mats of rotting, stinking vegetation. Worse smelling stuff on the river. It will be around until fall. Pretty cool looking though...

Thanks for the comments on my other posts and reading this one!

It's thicker than mine, but I think it dates to the same era. There was no exact match in my books, but that's not real surprising considering how many manufactures there were out there. Mind you, I am not a button expert. It's a nice one!

I'm just happy I can, kinda, use your's as a reference. It was found in an area that is dated to the 1600's, now a neighborhood, so there's probably more in this area. It was 5 inches deep next to a large maple tree.

WOW! Do the creeks you hunt have a rocky bottom? Around here the creeks are nothing but mud and I have always thought any relics would be several feet deep. HH

I hunt all over and will do mud or rocks. Rock bottom is much easier and usually has a lot less aluminum cans. Mud will protect the relics better. My best ones have been buried in it.

So even with the mud bottom the relics aren't very deep? I will have to rethink my theory that relics in mud sink to unreachable depths. Thanks for the great info!

Nice haul! What's the iron ball thing on top of the hatchet blade?

Well... I first thought it was another 12 pounder, but obviously with an eye in the top I was able to rule that out pretty quick. ::) I suppose it is some sort of weight/counter weight for something. :dontknow:
Thoughts are welcome...

Probably not, but for some reason I though of chain shot. Don't know why that would be in a creek though, was it ever used on land?

holy schnikes! everything but the kitchen sinker!

How do you do it? Right by the shore or do you go out in the shallow section and wade?
Also, how do you get it all of the bottom?

I watched I think all of your youtube videos and you got me motivated to get wet. Since I got my ATPro I have been wanting to go to a couple areas in this creek by my home. They put up some dams in the 40's I think so the water is anywhere between ankle deep to waist deep in areas. I sometimes see people fishing there so I know I will get my fair share of sinkers and hooks. I am looking to find some of the hand made bullet sinkers though.

My plan is hitting the creek on Sunday and I will post what I find if I get the chance to go and the wife does not put me to work. Thanks for sharing and look forward to seeing more.

Yeah! Lots of targets alright :o
That's the kind of site I like ;D
I'm no expert, but if I found that item, I'd guess chainshot :icon_scratch:
Nice buckles and well preserved sling

I just want to say what a great job!! I love seeing your finds. I'm a big CW buff and really appreciate the great videos to motivate me to stop working, sell my dogs, and go hunting, lol. Even in this 1000 degree weather.
