Within 10 minutes of arriving, I had pickecd a corner of the cellar hole and began to scan the dirt and ash mix. (The dwelling burned down in 1946 due to a tractor that backfired and ignited the autumn leaves to burn out of control.) Up against the north wall of the cellar, I got a strong signal. I was expecting to uncover a quarter of some sort, but what I recovered was larger and darker. Under close examination, I was surprised to find that what I had found was a WWII Victory medal. Given to those who served from 1941 to 1945. The home burned down in 1946 which means the soldier enjoyed the medal for only a partial year. It is recovered now, out of the ash, after 67 years.
