What would the date range be for that copper if it was it?

Can you see anything on the other side at all? It looks like the bust of a William III Irish Halfpenny to me.

Good hunt! The detail on that barber is amazing.

Nice hunt, the copper is a toughie, I do not think it is a William III copper, but not sure, sure looks like lettering is on top of the bust as if it was an American Draped Bust, but just cannot make it out. If you used a detector that has readouts, compare it with a Large Cent, if it reads about the same, that will eliminate a William III Halfpence, whether Irish or British. They read lower than Large Cents.
On my Explorer SE Pro, the William III Halfpence average around 5-7 for Ferrous and 25-28 Conductive. Whereas as most Large Cents 0-2 for Ferrous and 28-29 for Conductive. So the big difference is in the Ferrous numbers which also gives a lower sound on a William versus a Draped Bust Large Cent, just a thought to try if you can.

I think you are right Don. Looks like the word Liberty above the bust. But it looks like either a draped bust or a liberty cap large cent. I alomost think its the liberty cap. :icon_thumleft:

If it's letters I also agree, but I couldn't tell. That would make sense why the other side is blank because many early large cents seem weakly struck on the reverse. (my 1795 is)

Nice finds. I have hunted with Mike several times and he is great to hunt with. Congrats on some great finds.

:hello:

That was a fun day of detecting JB. We sure covered some landscape yesterday, didn't we? You've gotten nice silver AND Coppers on both trips. Thanks again JB
