Way to go James. You and Mike both did great. Congrats on the old copper, but I love that Barber quarter. Great detail. Awesome spot you invited Mike to. Hopefully he behaved himself. :tongue3: :laughing9:

Hey, at least you know what it is... better than just another green disk. Plus you're getting out and have the chance for a better one.

Very interesting finds there James! :o
Congrats on the 1901 Barber! :notworthy:

I like this little button, any idea how old it is? :icon_scratch:

Nice hunt, the copper is a toughie, I do not think it is a William III copper, but not sure, sure looks like lettering is on top of the bust as if it was an American Draped Bust, but just cannot make it out. If you used a detector that has readouts, compare it with a Large Cent, if it reads about the same, that will eliminate a William III Halfpence, whether Irish or British. They read lower than Large Cents.
On my Explorer SE Pro, the William III Halfpence average around 5-7 for Ferrous and 25-28 Conductive. Whereas as most Large Cents 0-2 for Ferrous and 28-29 for Conductive. So the big difference is in the Ferrous numbers which also gives a lower sound on a William versus a Draped Bust Large Cent, just a thought to try if you can.

Don

The coin reads out as a standard LC. There is lettering acroos the top
:icon_scratch:

I don't see how anyone can guess at a ID by means of what it reads on a detectors readout :icon_scratch:

First of all, it is not a guess on saying it is a large cent, there is lettering going across the top of the bust, which no William III copper has, second, all the William coppers I have (over 20) ALL read on the Explorer SE using Digital mode at much lower numbers than any Large Cent. Of the dozens of Large Cents I have recorded so far in the survey I am doing, they all read higher on the digital scale than any William copper. (All coppers are not the same purity, evidently the Williams had more impurities than the US Large Cents, thus the lower numbers and tone)

Nice hunt James. In one photo of your copper, I see what looks like lettering above the bust which I would think is LIBERTY, indicating a large cent. But in the other photo, I don't see the lettering :dontknow:

Nice hunt James. That sword hanger is pretty cool and the Barber is in great shape! :icon_thumleft:
