My buddy Erich invited me to come hunt with him, he had researched a couple sites that looked real old and had some promise to them. We went down a mile long dirt road and it dead ended with fields on both sides, there was a homesite on both sides of the road. It was 27 degrees and the ground was froze hard down at least 4-5", getting these finds was a LOT of work, but well worth the effort!
We hit the right side first and Jeremy got a 5 cent trade token and a couple min late I dug the exact same one, then Erich got one as well. We ended up getting 6 of the same token on that site, two were found by me. There was a lot of trash on this site so Erich walked over to try out the one on the left side. Wasn't 5 minutes and he yelled "Large cent"! We said be right there and in the 5 minutes before we got there Erich has dug two more large cents within 5 ft from the first one!

I got a nice 12-46 and dug out a nice frozen chunk of dirt I could not break it open so I stuck it in my pouch and after about 30 minutes from the warmth of my body I was able to break it open to reveal my first for the day a 1833 largie!

This site was awesome, virtually NO trash, every signal was either a flat button or a large cent. I think I dug around 5 pieces of lead and couple pieces of scrap, all other targets were keepers! This site gave up 14 large cents, and 25 flat buttons.

Erich won the day with day with 7 large cents
I was in second place with 4 largies
and Jeremy came in last but not least with 3 nice largies to call his own.

We all had a nice selection of buttons as well. We hunted here for hours gridding back and forth till we got no more signals, we had time for one more site before dark and this site gave up 5 indians, I got two of them 1880 and 1874.

Today I hit a site with BadJim and managed a decent 1865 two center from the frozen ground. I'd say it was a great weekend! I included a pic of ALL 14 large cents found at the site, unreal BEST field I have ever hunted hands down

Wow what a great hunting sight you've latched onto! Congrats on all the great coin and button finds. I really like those trade tokens, also. They tell a little story all of their own. I've dug a handful of large cents from one sight before, but never all on the same day. Keep digging those fields! Continued HH.

WOW, you keep having days like that and your going to need a bigger stump. Your LCs have great detail as does your 2 center and indian's, your soil is very kind, congrats on an awesome hunt.

That is phenomenal !!!! The detail on those LC 's is fantastic !!!! What was under that frozen ground, a bank vault full of LC's? Gentlemen you did yourselves proud, congrats! With 4-5" of frozen top soil, you really earned those!
