This is an Isle of Man Penny - 1758 I found In Montana, northwest part of state yesterday. The words "CUOCUNQUE JECERIS STABIT" means (which ever way you throw it, it will stand). One of only 60,000 struck in 1758 for James Murray, second Duke of Atholl, the new owner of the Island. Obverse: crowned "AD" monogram (Atholl Dux) over the date. Reverse: Triskeles with large caps of armour on the knees: Reasonable collectable condition for type as these are struck on soft copper flans. diameter 29 mm. Weight 10.3g.

Whoa that's a way cool find :icon_thumleft: You never know how stuff ends up so far away from where it started.

Interesting coin with some distant time travel :headbang: Outstanding :icon_thumleft:

yah this has probably gotta be my best find of my life. Even better than my biggest gold nugget of 3 grams. It is interesting to think of how this thing got to Whitefish, MT from Isle of Man between Ireland and the UK. I read up on the Isle of Man and there have been people inhabiting the island since 6500 B.C. and the celts there have even been talked about in Greek and Roman literature. Pull it up on wikipedia. It is fasinating.

Awesome Find :o
I prefer the coin drilled with the owners chain, that is a link to the individual, (likely a trader) rather than 'just a coin'
Big Congrats.

That is a cool find. Makes the heart rate go up when something like that comes out of the ground. Do you live in Whitefish? I live about 12 miles from there in Martin City.

that is awesome!! congrats

Yah I do. Wanna go detect thie sight I found it at? I am going back there today. still more coins on those two lots.

Wow truely amazing. Thats what I love about this hobby u never know what is the next signal going to b.. Alot better chances than lottery. HH Mark

Certainly has some miles behind it, the stories it could tell. Terrific find! HH

wow nice find! seeing something like that coming out in my neck of the woods gives me hope!

Way to go! I love everything about this find so have nominated it for Banner. Hope you and your new detecting buddy find a lot more on the sites. Keep us posted. Andi

g-olden years, i found two more wheaties one is 1947 and the other is 1920. Bob found found some wheaties too. I also found a sacajawia dollar today. this x-terra 705 is kicking but this week.

Reese--now I can see what you've been talking about. That is truly one sweet find! I've never found a coin that old, and that baby really has some history going for it, that's for sure. Congratulations on your incredible find. Now go out and find some more cool stuff--you're on a hot streak right now!

All the best on a super find,

Lanny

Thanks Lanny. I entered it in Minelabs Finds of the month Stories.

Never found any 18th C Isle of Man coinage :hello2:

Not sure if you know but this is one of the earliest coins struck on the Island :o (expect 1 possible 11th C Hiberno-Manx issue)

Only 1709 & 1733 came before this one. :)

Its a Ducal Coronet over AD monogram, the 3 legs (symbol of the Island) represents the strength/fortune of the Island Race - ie. which ever way you throw me I will still land on my feet ;D

Crusader, thanks for the added info on my coin. Isn't it funny how a coin like that can turn up detecting so far from home. I know there were only 60,000 struck. So this is a very rare coin to find then I take it? Do you know anyone else that has found one? I was just thinking the day before I found this coin, "Wouldn't it be cool to find a coin from the early 1800's or 1700's, but I then said to myself that will never happen since I live in Montana". The very next day I find this coin. How ironic!
