I found this recently in a local field. It's not much to look at but I can make out the date and enough detail to identify it, so I'll take it!

Wow I bet your coin would clean up a lot nice than that. Try some distiller water overnight and see where you end up.

Congrats, that's an early one to be proud of!!!

That's a killer coin and I bet that could be made to look nicer and accentuate some detail

Someone showed a coin they did a hydrogen bath on it turned out real good. I think it's boiling hydrogen peroxide Don't know though ?And before anyone kills me I think it is fine how it is. Just passing on about a post I had seen.

Awesome find! Practice on an old wheat cent first.... buy hydrogen peroxide (its cheap) boil it in a microwave and drop the coin in it for a few minutes. Then use only a q-tip on it. It will bring out all of the detail and not change the color of the coin... you may need to do it more than once...

Awesome awesome find. I really wish I could break into the 1700's grrrr. I posted an 1824 LC a few months ago that I cleaned using the hot hydrogen peroxide bath. It worked great. The peroxide has to be real warm to work well. I have an electric kitchen stove and put about a quarter cup of peroxide in a real small thin glass bowl. I placed it on the burner used for warming things. It kept it at a perfect temp. I took it out every 5 mins and rubbed it very lightly with clean qtips. The coin will appear somewhat dried out when it is done. I simply rubbed it with the smallest amount of Vaseline to correct that. This is how it looked afterward.
I can only say how this method worked for me. Some people may say it's not a good idea. It's up to you to decide I guess 👍

All I would say is do the mildest form of cleaning first. Most relic hunters have a horror story about a coin not cleaning right. In your post you seemed happy enough as is, so there ya go. It's a beauty either way and again congrats. I found a '93 and didn't so much cleaning to it and was happy to just find a LC that old

That's one on my bucket list.... yours looks like it will clean up very well. I'd also suggest the peroxide bath for it.
