So I purchased a new detector, The Blisstool V5.. Its said to go really really deep, for a VLF.
The reason for the buy is my old sites I have are starting to dry up.
The only things i have been finding are deep iffy signals.
So i thought i would give this one a try..
Not a everday detector. No screen, no VDI numbers to go by, and only one tone, and scratches for iron.
So glad i bought it!!!
Not that it was really deep or anything but would probably never would of dug it..If I was not listening really close..
Sorry for going on about the detector..
And the good part..
I was just about to go, it was so hot today. I already found a 1865 IH.
A flat button a musket ball. ( the musket ball was crazy deep.
12 or so inches down)
And i said just one more descent find and im leaving. .
Boy I am so glad i said that!!!!
I flip the plug and I see this gold edge. .I almost pooped myself. .lol
I grab my phone and take a pic..
Then I knocked a little dirt off and all i see is 1849..I stand up and started to do a dance..SAYING I FOUND A GOLD COIN..I FOUND A GOLD COIN. OHHHH YEAAAA..LOL.
Now I dont want to rub it so i grab a hand full of the dirt and put it in my film canister. .Shut my detector off and head straight to the truck..
My heart was pounding out of my chest..Called my wife, I new she was in class teaching, but hey!!!! I just found a gold coin!!! Lol
She told great honey now can i go back to work??? Ok i said..lol
So I got home and ran it under water .Wow dirt just fall off..
After a little bit of research.
I found out it is a coin token from the hold rush era..The first year made..
In my eyes I think that is so much cooler then a $1 dollar coin that I thought it was..
Sorry for the long winded post..
But as you see, Iam pretty excited about this find..
Thanks for looking. .
George

Still holding to my original. A modern-replica that is either plated or just brass. Definitely should change the title, Vino.

Ill keep trying to find cool stuff..

George - you went the extra mile to do what needed to be done, and your efforts were well-rewarded. Regardless of the age, it's gold, and it's an awesome find! 'Nuf said ....

Beautiful coin, how's the detector? I need deep for my colonial site.

Its seems to go crazy deep.
But is not for sites with trash..
Iron is ok..
Not other trash..
One tone. Only.
But you can tell if its iron.

What do you mean, TRYING??? You find cool stuff all the time. If Tom, Steve and I didn't like you we would hate you we're so jealous of the incredible items you uncover on a regular basis. Do NOT let the words of a naysayer or two in any way interfere (I know you won't) with your love and passion for the hobby. You keep posting all of your fantastic finds so we can continue to live vicariously through you.

Gold is gold. Makes it a nice find in itself. IMHO there is only ONE scale to weigh coins. http://www.trapshooters.com/attachments/dsc05518-jpg.286824/ The electronic gram scales just aren't accurate enough. I caught someone years ago trying to pull a colonial scam on me and I caught him because I had one of these scales and could weigh the coin to a 1/10th of a grain (not gram).

Hey Diggin',
I looked at your link to pictures of your finds.....most impressive! I used to live in Ft. Worth, but, it was long before I began detecting. After seeing your finds, I really wish I had started earlier! Just a "thank you" for sharing the pics. If there is anyone out there that hasn't looked at the link.....you are missing out!

Vino, you have my banner vote! Really nice find.

When George texted me a pic of his gold coin, I told him I'm really starting to dislike texts from him. What else can we say? The man finds a lot of cool stuff....all thanks to all his fancy detectors!

Kudos to you for going the extra mile to add validity to the find. I'm so happy for you that it came back as gold. You have my vote in fact, you had it prior to testing. Good for you!!
