This thing is a mess but someone had told my that the 1916 Merc is special. Is there a certain mint because it’s gone on this one? ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1536288532.219152.jpg

The valuable one is 1916 D. The mint Mark is on the other side, by the lower left of the torch. I've found two 1916 mercs so far, but unfortunately not the Denver mint Mark..but got my heart pumping! Lol. Good luck!

NEPA is correct. Its the 1916 D that is the valuable one. I have found 5 - 1916's but not one of them has the D mint mark on it. Every now and then I will pull them out to look at them, and see if that D has magically appeared ! Hasn't happened yet ! Congrats on your find.

Nice dig but wow I have never seen silver come out that crusted. Betting it will clean up nicely in electrolux. I've found one 1916 also but no D mint.

I found it at an old beach. It’s probably been there since 1916

Nice find! Poor thing is pretty roached, but a '16 Merc just as well. I've unearthed two 1916's myself, both Philly mint. At a mintage of 264,000...those are rare units! A local guy I occasionally hunt with found a nice "D" about 5 years ago...the only coin or relic he's ever sold, I wouldn't have turned the offer down either! Get back out there and find it's cousin from Denver...Ddf.

Exactly! I guess the rare and mysterious 1916D Merc is one of the most, if not the most, coin counterfeited. I read that PCGS returns WAY more counterfeited "D"s than authentic ones. I couldn't imagine how you would install the D and make it look convincing. Oh well, I'll just keep digging and hoping...Ddf.

China is flooding the market with counterfeit 1916-D mercs. They look very real and even come slabbed with a fake pcgs grading if you are willing to spend the money. Sucks. Beware of anything on Ebay.

I’m thinking it’s a counterfeit. Never, ever have I seen a Merc or any other silver coin look that bad.

it pisses me off they can sell that and get away with it. I will admit I’ve bought some fakes of Silver Eagles and Morgan’s so that u impart with the real deal. I have found one that was toasted like this before in a driveway. I always thought it had been in a fire at some point because the other silvers I pulled from the yard were fine.

I’ve never seen a Lady so crusty before very odd. Beware of the counterfeit. But then again I love finding a good counterfeit. My first time I got “Sat Down” it was a fake chair. It was a period 1875 Seated Dime. IMG_0884.JPG IMG_0885.JPG

Yep I didn’t start researching counterfits until after I got taken on a few counterfit gold coins. I found out the seller bought them from Aliexpress.com and what I had was junk.

I found it at an old beach so it’s been in salt water and sand for possibly a 102 years
