I went detecting near the University of Oregon today and my wife came along with me . . . . she likes to take a blanket and a good book and lay out in the grass while I metal detect. I dug a nice 1945 Mercury Dime, 1919 & 1949 wheat cents and about $3.00 in clad. We came home for dinner, and after that my good buddy Ron invited me to a new spot to do some more detecting! I didn't find a lot but one cool looking aluminum 25c coin from Luxembourg dated 1954 (about the size of a U.S. one cent). It took me a while to find out where exactly it was from ~ on the coin it reads LETZEBURG. I looked for LETZEBURG in my World coin book but couldn't find anything ~ but in the glossary directed me to Luxembourg . . . . sure enough, I found it listed! It's a very common coin.

Thanks for looking!
Neil

For some reason, I just love those Mercs...Glad you had a great time ..HH

Nice coins there. Foreign coins are always cool finds. :) jgas

Nice finds! Silver's always great, and now you can cross off Luxembourg from your list of nations. Not too many of us will ever be able to do that.

All the best to you!

Mike

Sounds like a fun day at the park for you and your wife. Nice finds! Is luxemburgh english or german? HH Tom

Yeah, I agree! I love seeing those Merc dimes come out of the ground! They are my favorite old coin to dig . . . . well, one that you dig on a semi-regular basis anyway!

We were planning on going to South Carolina this year in Oct., but we're decided to postpone it until May of next year! I hope to dig some good old treasures while we're there!

Hey been away all week over in wyoming walking the oregon trail and seeing the sights. I just have one question did Vel read Mikes post and then decide to go down to the U of O with you or would she have went anyway. LOL Great finds,"nice walker", silver is attracted to you and just seems to jump out of the ground when your coil crosses over it .
