.50 caliber still have juice?

OK about time I chimed in here. Having been a combat engineer demolition specialist and still have all my digits, this thing is safe. Even if it still had powder in it, unless it was chambered in a breech, it would only pop. No flying bullets ala Hollywood.

I'm sure your digits are still there because of folks like myself coming to the engineers aid. "Crabs over castles!"

Don't worry:) I'm gonna show it to my Dad. He's a Vietnam war veteran , an avid hunter since boyhood, a reloader, and safety nut. Wether it's A safety hazard or not , considering its size ... If it still has powder he wont give me a choice , he'll take it.
In the meantime back in the trunk it goes. I have no plans on shooting it ( why would I ever dream of doing that ?. Last time I checked all the mammoths were extinct) and I promise not to take a Phillips head and a mallet to it. Lol. Thanks everybody!!
I'm a Vietnam Vet. Tét of '68 in Hué, Phu Bai, Dong Ha. BIG party that Jan/Feb. Lots of noise, dancing in the streets. Stuff like that. First time I peed my pants (and I'm not ashamed to say it!). God bless your dad and THANK YOU to ALL the Vets here for their sacrifice and service to this country. OORAH! Sgt. TT Cieszki CAP Cmdr 113.

:laughing7: I used to have 2,000 rounds of WW2 .06 FMJ/Tracers...worse part of shooting them(aside from the fact they were hard on a barrel)was more DIDNT fire than did!

The question that I just developed, If her dad and husband are avid shooters and experts, why spend 3 pages here. It seems that if it was such an emergency, they would already have taken care of it. It's not dangerous, Ii have several in my desk that are live rounds and nothing has made them go "bang" in over 25 years.

I agree with TerryC. I had a "friend" who found something interesting in his yard, took it to his shop and used a wire wheel to clean it up and set it on his mantle. I go over to his house (we reloaded AA 12 gauge together for dove season) and said HOLY CRAP where did you get that Japanese grenade? the pin and striker were gone but it was still filled with picric acid, which is very volatile and unstable. I called our bomb squad (OK Highway Patrol) and they took it away and did controlled detonation, which included a secondary from the unstable picric acid. Do not take chances with what you do not know. That round has been modified in some fashion that you have no idea what was done. Have it declared safe before you use it as a paperweight. Any law enforcement firearms instructor can verify it for you if safe.

Isn't it uncomfortable to sit down with bugs in your butts? If you didn't notice on the beginning of page 2 , I said I would ask dad ( not that it's any of your business, but I asked my husband and he said , ask your dad). I haven't seen him yet to ask him . By page 3 I felt I needed to respond once again that I would ask my dad... Because the responses and debates continued and I wanted those posting to know I had it taken care of. I was reassured on here, that I was right, in my initial feeling that I didn't have anything to worry about.
The real question is, why do YOU keep coming back here to throw in your two cents adding to the the length of this thread, when it was resolved on page 2?
To everyone who answered in earnest , thank you, your responses were appeiciated.

Post above is for you as well

Nope no bugs up my _ _ _ _ and I sit quit comfortably. Actually thought I was trying to make everyone see you were satisfied with all the suggestions even though you choose none of them since you already have expert family members who can make the decision. Guess you could have just did that first. Sorry don't want to make this thread any longer. Have a great day. Hunter

Just one more thing from me. Most of the comments here, both for and against outside intervention, seemed very well intentioned. Secret Canyon:: DPS, Up on "the hill" is encouraging me to renew my Police firearms (FL) instructor credentials in AZ. Is AZ hurting for instructors? Is that possible? TTC

I would do whatever TerryC says, he knows his stuff

this whole thread was completely avoidable with little effort....that being said....we all hope you are ok and safe.

Ah.. just place it on a block of wood and drill a hole in it. If you find powder drop it in oil, let it drain, then use it as a paper weight...
or put a chain through it and use it as a necklace!

I was hoping I would not need to have to respond to this thread,
being I had nothing to contribute to her original question,
& really don't want to Hijack it But :(
all members have a right to make threads, as long as they are
friendly & on topic 8-)

I'm sorry, I thought this was a place we could ask a question if we had one, my mistake .
