Think i got it bad......

Back out today -8 C with bit of wind and snow !!!!

Ground was covered with snow as it was coming down pretty good...... I was thinking-- I HOPE NO ONE IS WATCHING !!

Almost left once but it stop snowing for a lil bit....fingers were getting cold also.

Switched the detector over to DISCRIM from ALL METAL as i like to do at the ends of my hunts to try and get used to it.

On the way back to the truck----yea I know another one of them stories--- the detector went off on a decent hit but there was a old brick under the coil and they make the detector go off almost always.....so I kicked the brick away and the signal was still there....out popped the lock all in one piece and not seized up....was very surprised considering I just found one the day before.

So that put a smile on my face and called it a day as I had cold fingers and getting damp... hopefully a better day tomorrow.

Not sure if the little coin is a silver coin or not...if so it is the 1st for me in salt water..... it is very small and thin.

Can anyone gimme an ID on the coin and couple of the other items ...TY in advance .

Could be a british 3 pence, it does kind of look like Victoria with the bunn in back of her head.

Just a guess, as I can't see it too well, but the size would be about right too.

Good lord Aqua, you are absolutely killing it! I'm down here p****** and moaning about our weather and your'e out there pulling finds out out of the frozen tundra! Congrats :occasion14:

I think you might be correct there Rick.... it,s about the size of my 3 pence and the bun is correct also.

But thats a hard looking silver coin .

Is that normal for salt water.?

ty mr b.

I,m fortunate enough to live near the ocean... so there is always somewhere to go detecting..just a matter of if I can stand the weather.

But it is a great start to my year !!

Not sure what the beat up coin is but the dime should be silver. It is 1955 right? If so...a dollar plus in melt value. The "Patent" marked item looks like a suspender hook. Some really cool finds!

ty Doc

The dime is a newer dime... i just put it beside the found coin to give a size comparison.

Don't know about "normal" but here are a couple salt water silver, and not very old, Elizabeth II.

WOW... they look like pennies.. not what i thought they would look like...learn something new everyday...is always a good day !!!!!

Only thing I ever see saltwater help instead of destroy is those pewter buttons.

You'll be able to clean up that silver...salt makes silver look like copper. I found a Victorian 50 cent in the salt a few years ago and for 2 days I thought it was a large copper...a little AutoSol and it was shining again!

Very normal and why we rarely hunt it here.

You are a beast, and I thought I was a die hard, it was in the twenties (Fahrenheit) and I quit early, only one hour.
I like those finds, very cool stuff.

Ty for the tip !!!

I,ll pick some up later today--see what happens..... don,t think I can hurt it !!!

Does any know what date frame the lock would be from ?

What a great hunt you had, that early RCAF button is really nice. I am going on 36 years in the air force and my family goes all the way back to the beginnings of the RCAF so that button holds alot of value to me, great find Aqua. The lock and silver coin are also great finds.
Also for cleanning your coin, I once had to put a large silver coin from the Chamaeu wreck in an electrolysis bath for a day to make it look like silver again.(hope it cleans up nice for you)

WOW... 36 YEARS !!!

You must be getting ready for retirement soon . ??

That is a long history your family has in RCAF...very nice.... your family prolly has some buttons like it --but in much better shape.

Will try cleaning the coin tomo....think its a 5 cent fish scale late 1800s... it is quite a bit smaller than a 3 pence and the bust is different.

Also..what is a good way to shine that lock up ??

I love finding those brass locks they display very well congrats

Definitely leave them as is, and they'll more than likely develop some nice toning in a short time.

In the future anytime you say or think about asking.... "Can you recommeend a good way to shine them up ?" .... rethink that because it's almost always a bad choice and one you'll probably regret over time. If you want a new looking lock forget your Colonial era shore site and just go to Home Depot. :)

Very true words of wisdom. !!!!
