Hey guys,

Needless to say 2018 is shaping up to be another killer year. Took me 360 days last year to find my only rev war button (USA continental) in 2017, but I guess lightning can strike twice in a month. This week was certainly the most challenging conditions I've ever hunted in. I started the week on the coast with Stef45 hunting post-blizzard in 20 degree weather with 20 kt winds...it sucked. That being said, a combination of digging on the coast and in the snow produced a nice pile of relics to start the year.

The best of the bunch is this partial British, 82nd regiment of foot. Two companies were sent to the Carolinas in 1780, again in early 1781 they traveled to New York and eventually to Charleston where this one was lost. Starting shaking when this little beauty popped out of the snow.

Here's a look after cleaning and sealing with renaissance wax

On the same section of coastline that produced the USA, also dug another interesting pewter cuff. Unfortunately surface bubbling will make a positive ID difficult although it does appear to be marked.

Also recovered another with a partial backmark

A bit farther in lead I dug a nice assortment of buttons. The nicest were a large dandy with gilt center as well as a smaller silver flat button with BB hallmark.

If anyone recognizes the hallmark please let me know.

Here's a group shot of the others

The earliest relic I recovered is certainly one of my favorite buckles. I knew it was early out the dirt, but thanks to Bill I was able to narrow it down.

This one matches #619 and dates from 1660-1720!

Also dug another buckle frame

That about wraps it up- one solid way to bring in 2018. Hopefully a sign of better digs to come, as always thanks for looking.

THE WOW FACTOR JUST WENT UP! CONGRATS

Congrats on the recoveries and a kick ass way of starting off the new season. It never seems as cold as it really is when one is digging up keepers I find.

With finds like that, VMI would very well fall under the term, "American Metal Detectorist." I say that in regards to our English cousins with the great finds of English History they share, so goes with VMI's bit of early American History. I so enjoy this T-Net site.

Nice job getting out, nice relics, I really like that buckle!

Great hunt! Love those early buckles & the 82nd button is a neat piece of history.

Congrats on the Rev. War button, and all the rest of your relics. I would be out in the snow and cold digging for finds like that. Somehow it just makes it all worth while.

Certainly worth the conditions with a pewter button in the plug. Thanks Trezure

Way to go Jon! Got to love seeing a Rev war button popping out the dirt! Hopefully 2018 will continue to be a great year for you. Congrats!

Absolutely pepper... But I'm not complaining about the 55 degree weather now :laughing7:

Much appreciated sprailroad, always great to share the history we save.

Wow you are kicking ass and taking names now !!!!!

Killer find to start 18 my man. I WILL find a Rev button this year. I also have researched an 1812 site that could be s great one. Keep em coming pal. You sure make your hunts count

Awesome finds! Love the button and the buckle. Congrats!

Wow what a way to start 2018
Awesome button and such a looker that buckle.
Congrats

Wow! Huge congrats on the 82nd. I have hoped to dig one around Wilmington for a long time. The 82nd regiment occupied Wilmington in 1781 to establish a supply base for Cornwallis's invasion of NC. It is great to see one actually found in the Carolinas!! :occasion14:
