Well.. I went to the property adjacent to the field I dug the VA button in the other day.. there is a new house there but there had been a house from the 1700s there at one point. I found a few musical reeds.. two dog tags.. a 1919 female and a 1938 male.. a very heavy and nice cadet, or ball button and the large brooch. Nothing great but at least I dug something!!

oh very pretty brooch, by any chance is there any markings on it. Super nice finds..

do you know what type of instrument uses those reeds? I have also found a few of them

Never seen "Female" dog tags before. And the broach is beautiful.

I think they're reed's for an organ......Nice dig's Mark...The stone look's pretty wicked.

Most certainly.

MB--great finds. I like the brooch a great deal. And early dog tags can sometimes mean serious $$. I have a nice 1920's one from Virginia in the shape of a dog's head that I turned down $100 for ten years ago.

It was stuck in the bottom of the hole.. and man it looked huge!!! I assume it is just cut glass... but for a second there.. ;-)

I think the reeds come form a couple of different instruments... I think?? my dad had said they were in accordions too?? One of the other old house site we hunted had them everywhere.. I know I dug at leas 20 of them and my Dad had as many or more...

Dman,

Ok, not the best wording!!! ;-) but I was still riding the high of my Virginia button!!! ;-) This property gently slopes off of the field I dug the button and a bunch of bullets in.. so I was hoping for more CW stuff... except for the cadet button... tons of house site trash!!! What I didn't show was he 4 trips to the car to empty the mason jar lids.. and trash.. it is everywhere!!! Gonna take a long time to hunt this one!

Thanks!!

MB,
Great job on that brooch. You're lucky to have found one with the stone "jewel" still in it.
Love those dog tags too.
Great hunt.

Cool finds MB!! Here's a picture compliments of Montana Jim..On the reverse side of those reeds in the area I've circled the "key" should be stamped. I'm guessing "A" or "C" for the smaller one and probably "F" or "G" for the long ones.
