Had the day off yesterday because of the rain from this nor'easter. I wasn't concerned about working outside in the cold and rain, but since my boss rescheduled the job I didn't hesitate to gear up and go detecting! Grabbed my at pro and went to my standby civil war site. I didn't expect to find much since I had just been on Sunday... and I cleaned up pretty well then, but I still managed to dig up some smashed lead. I had to work for it, but any day I don't get skunked I'm happy!
I also dug a dropped roundball that I gave to the property owner. He has let me dig here for years, so this year I'm going to buy a case and put some bullets and other assorted relics that I have found here to give to him for Christmas. Even if I just threw a couple fired bullets and rivets in it he would be thrilled. Of course, I'll be a little more generous than that, but a little bit of kindness can go a long way in terms of staying on a site as well as getting onto new properties.
Thanks for looking, HH!

To some, that might not sound like much, but just a month or so ago, I found a very nice roundball on a new permission and gave it to the landowner too. He was very grateful as it was the very first he had ever seen. He was very proud of it having come from his property and wondered aloud how it might have come to be there. It's the gestures like that which will guarantee your success there. Very nice lead finds. I really like finding old lead myself.

I usually give them a kruggerand, but I'll try the lead bullet thing

Congrats on the CW lead. Any day I can dig a CW relic I'm a happy camper.
Giving the owners something will go a long way. I've made many a shadowbox for property owners over the years.
Great gesture on your part.

any day digging is a good day, nice finds

Made a brass copy of a US buckle I dug in our go to spot and threw in a few eagle buttons and bullets for the property owner and we've been hunting there for three years, still making finds! You made a good move in giving the landowner some of your finds!

Great finds congrats

Thanks guys, I appreciate the kind words!

Full size round balls are impressive. I still haven't found one, but I have found mini balls and pistol balls.

Impact bullets really make me think about what it had hit or even what the person was aiming at when it was fired. I found just a sliver of one at a home one time and it just made me wonder if it had hit a piece of steel like on a wagon and shear off.

Jeff Gordon are you still with us?
