When I was digging in a hole looking for metal, I found all sorts of things. I found some pottery and glass pieces, with big chunks still in the hole, the pieces I got were in just a couple of inches of ground, the stuff in the photos is about 8 to 10 inches of ground. As I kept checking the hole, after I found metal, I'd find some more. That is how I ended up so deep.

I didn't want to break the big pieces or disturb it if what is down there is anything special, so I marked the spot and thought I'd post this here on the forum, to see if anyone could help me out.

If you think I should do something dig it up or contact someone please share your thoughts. Also if you know what any of it is, please share your thoughts on that too!

I am also posting this in the "What is it" Forum, but I thought this might be a better place for answers.

I found nails, a handle, strange shaped metal objects, I think an old oil lamp, a round thing about the size of an Oreo cookie with a design on both sides. I also found a round metal thing with wire wrapped on some place on the side. There was also a round wheel like thing, and another thing I don't know what it is.

I found rocks, petrified wood (possibly two), one that may be an old tool. It is really comfortable in your hand. I know nothing about old tool rocks, so feedback on that would be appreciated too.

I also found all sorts of different glass, some blue that changes color with the light, other blue glass, brown, clear, pieces of china, and etc.

Sure would appreciate thoughts and comments.
Thanks, Cindy

Sounds like a dump or filed in hole. Might be worth digging from the age of the stuff.

Nice hole! looks like there's a lot of pottery down there, maybe a landfill at one time?
some of that looks like a pulley system of some sort.

"I found rocks, including a petrified rock (possibly two)"...

Did you mean to write "petrified wood"?

What's a mofo? Sounds nasty. M :dontknow: nty

Nice digging. Looks like they used that area as a dump area, I would look around for a cellar hole.

that looks like ash in the hole, it was a dump pit or privy. the oldies are at the bottom. nice find :icon_thumleft: Go slow use a small hand rake also you can dig down next to the pit then over to the goodies

C'mon, Monty....surely, you haven't been that sheltered!? Think "mammy jammer." Or, "mo" = "mother" and "fo" = use your worst imagination.
