Nice looks like an adze that's worn out or a preform hard to tell without a pic of the working edge but nice find !!!!!!

After second pics I'd say well used adze or Celt nice find ;) looks almost wore totally out haha

It's just another term for ax I'll get some pics for you this evening;)

If I were to find it and it had nice work on the edges I would call it either a Humpback scraper or a large Turtleback scraper. Looks to be a keeper to me from what I can see.

Rock. It does have a hump back and is mostly flat on one side. I've been looking at pics of adze's and scraper and it seems to look more like a scraper to me. Either way i like it.

You might b right ;)

That is usually a type of tool made before Woodland period. The tools later on were smaller from what I find in my area. Here is a small turtleback scraper for you to see. I have one larger also.
The 3 are the size of a modern quarter and the 2nd one is kinda oval like yours and flat on the bottom.
All personal finds.

Nice artifact. Large scraper is probably the definition of a adze. Cool find!!

Maybe this will help<img src="http://www.treasurenet.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=887072"/><img src="http://www.treasurenet.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=887073"/>

Rack, this piece here

I see is made of shell, but I have a similar piece made of a rough stone. Tooling is not outstanding on this piece and is probably nothing. Do you think it's a broken Celt styled like the one pictured?

From what I see in the photo I don't think so. Most of the time you will see a wear pattern on stone if it was used, a lot of chipped celts will be polished on the end from use.View attachment 887297This broken chipped celt shows wear on the end and also signs of heat treating, that's the red color.

Hey rock I have several like that I think the were used as digging but not sure lots made of limestone type material here is a broke one I actually got both pieces 3 feet apart

Mine is too small to be a digging tool. Its 2.5 inches long kind of a scraper and almost like a adze. Could of been used as either I guess.

that's cool that you found both pieces. everytime I find a chip or broken piece I scour the place trying to find the rest. haven't found that missing piece yet.
