After all these years of coin collecting... first for me

First time ever, I got a silver quarter (1937) in change today while I was getting a burrito. Wow.

I could've tried to ask for change for some quarters but decided not to. Didn't want to be greedy.

I have yet to get a silver quarter in change till now. I did find a silver quarter 10 years ago in a cash register at a department store I worked at long ago. This is the first one I received in change. Silver quarters are still out there.

Because they are so rare in circulation, they are worth more to me that their silver value.

Finding one is a joy.

Finding them in boxes is tough enough but the odds of getting one in change is extremely low. Probably a chance in a lifetime of getting one in change nowadays.

Yep, I got 2 back in change at seperate gas stations in the last month. I thought the same as you SF, "I don't want to get greedy", and go in and buy up the till lol!

Nothing like getting paid to eat lunch!!! congrats on your find, and yes, silver quarters are out there. I personally do not do quarter boxes. got a lone 49d quarter at the reject bin of my coin machine(which accepts silver, I have seeb bags with silver in them, cannot search through the bags or purchade them(cherry picking tellers @ my dump bank, all of them cherry pick) )

Nice score, don't see many quarters from the '30s out there.

And if you have some cherry picking tellers, tell them that you are a coin collector and will pay, say, $1 for every silver dime, $3.25 for every quarter, and $7 for every silver half they can get you. It is a win-win situation, you get silver for much less than melt and they get better prices than most cash4gold places. Even more of a win if you can manage to get some rare dates for that little.

Earlier this year a friend of mine said his bank had a 2 $1000 bags of Quarters he would pick up for me if I wanted them. I told him it ain't worth my time to come and get them from him. He bought both bags for himself and found 57 silver quarters in them (all in one bag other had nothing).

About a year ago I received a silver dime in change, followed by one about two weeks later. This is what got me thinking about searching for silver in the first place.

Same thing happened to me on Monday. I walked into a bank to ask for halves. Only one teller had one half and it was a 1967 40%er. I handed her a dollar bill and she gave me the coin and two
quarters and guess what....one of the quarters was a nice 1964. I asked her if I could get two dollars
in quarters for the parking meters. She gave them to me, but none where silver. I figured that was
the only one. Anyway, that was the first silver quarter I've gotten in change in many years. Interesting that it happened to you and me in the same week.
