Detector(s) used
Minelab Explorer XS-2, Garrett Ace 250
I finally made it to a soccor field that I'd been wanting to check out for over a year now and the day did arrive. I had just planned to scan for 30 or so minutes and see what I would dig up!! I had already decided to dig every signal and decided to use the Explorer instead of the Ace 250. Nice weather, cool wind blowing and a detector in my hands I made my way to the field. I started swinging and dug a dime, a memorial cent, another dime, then had a sweet sound and knew I had a gold ring, it turned out to be a pull tab, but I could dream. Anyways, no pattern, just swinging along slowly enjoying the day, and enough coins to make me happy including my first Kennedy Half of the year. I made a sweep close to a goal post and had another tab hit, but digging anyways I was surprised to see a mans heavy(5.34 dwt) 14k white gold wedding band, maybe two inches deep. I was a very happy camper, packed it in and decided to make plans to come back!! Totals for the day:
1 Kennedy Half Dollar
6 Quarters
11 Dimes
4 Nickels
5 Memorial Cents
1 Wheat cent

Wow, that was a great hunt! Congrats

Great job, don't you love it when you think you are digging junk, and out pops a great find. Thats what keeps all of us going.

Congrats!! Awesome day! Can't wait to see next time you get over there!

Well that's just a nice looking ring, Jack!
I like it.

LoL I see you quit right at the point where your ratio was at it's best!
Makes sense to me.

I kinda use a different strategy when I go to a new place... sometimes...

The Little Yeller Feller would have been my choice, first, for a speedier surface scan of as much of the most likely area as I could cover, so I could cover much as I could, and get the lay of the land. After getting a bit of info, I would go back with the big gun and leave no stone unturned.

But it's all according to how you feel that day that will most likely get the best results. You sure did well!

I actually thought of using the Ace, but to be honest, I use it only for tot lots and playgrounds, but I did give it thought. I have a 12 inch coil on the Explorer and can cover quite a bit of ground and have a better feel with it. When I go back, its slow grid city from one end to the next, then grid from another direction! Maybe another ring will see the light of day!!

Always a great day when you find gold!!!!
