I found this chunk of barbed wire in an area with lots of history from the 1850's. Is it old or does it just look that way? The barbs are made from flat metal stock (not round) and are wrapped around just one of the two strands of wire. The distance between barbs is about 3 inches.

I am not sure of its age, but know the flat barbs are the older type.
