I'm guessing maybe some kind of jewelry box....unfortunately there was nothing in side or around it where I found it.

Going with grinder. Archeodeb's first pic convinces me of that.

Most of the old coffee roaster I've seen had a barrel drum that rotated like the one on this website:
Antique Coffee Roaster

I'm not saying it isn't a coffee roaster, but I think it has more to do with the 'Father.' Have you found that mini hog yet?

There's nothing on the inside left, no fins or anything. I found it next to an old stone wall in an area that was once farmland in the 1700 and 1800's and not far from where I found the pieces of an old Geisel cook stove. I'm going to go back and do a more thorough search as soon as I can. Had a few warm days this week but now we're back to our typical New England weather, it's always tough digging no matter what time of the year it is and now the grounds starting to freeze back up again. But we'll see, I'll post if I find anything else good.....and since I mentioned it, anybody know anything about old cook stoves? I can't find a single pic of a A. Geisel wood stove, all I found was that Andrew Geisel started his business in St. Louis in 1852.....that's about it.

Does appear to be a mid 19th century meat grinder, if i recall alot of those small meat grinders back then had to be bolted down while you were cranking it... Kewl find indeed! :occasion14:

I have quite a few wood cook stoves & grew up using them. I don't know if I have a Guisel but but if you have questions, I've put enough of them together... lol.

Thanks Reed, made a post with pics of it in the "What is it worth" forum. Any info/advice would be greatly appreciated.
