I could see them coming out with a new detector that will be a combination of their Vaquero with a multi-tone id, a manual ground balance, and multi-frequencies. I know that many people buy Tesoro's for their simplicity and many Tesoro folks like to dig every repeatable signal, but they got to look at it from the new generation of detectorists who want an id of some kind. They'll come a time when all of us beep and dig old timers aren't around anymore myself included. Much as I love their detectors, they have to look to the future. We can only hope.
Probably will never happen.
After their father died the two sons took over but it wasn't too long until one of the brothers left the company.
Kinda strange, I wondered what happened because it isn't all that normal for the next generation to take over a long running established family business and then for close family to leave like that.
I have no idea why but in my head it is not out of line to think the two brothers each had a vision for the future of the company and they clashed.
Putting aside the fact that they didn't seem to have any plans for a more modern detector, (in my opinion I don't think this was all that necessary because they were a technological niche company but they did well in that niche), but they had other issues... they never moved into the 21st century in their thinking regarding promoting themselves in social media, forums or any other way to connect with their customers or trying to get new ones.
Long gone are the days when a detector company could just put some print ads in a few hunting magazines and think that was sufficient.
They would talk to you all day if you called them but even using e mail was a challenge for them, the Luddites that they are.
In my opinion it all comes down to Vince.
No vision, no social awareness, no new ideas or forging any new paths but just keep the status quo which was evident to most of us it just wasn't working for them very well.
It is always about the the head guy/woman in any business, success can be measured by their leadership or failure can be blamed on their lack of leadership, in business this is just the way it is.
The best leaders either have great vision and ideas or they are smart enough to hire great people with good instinct and ideas and then listen to them.
Vince was never that guy, he might be one of the nicest people in the planet which many that have talked to him said he is but he had no tools or skills to bring this company into modern times successfully or even to keep it afloat in their niche.
Vince's business sense is way closer to the idiot that took over Sears and ran it into the ground than he ever was to a Steve Jobs.
Despite all that if the history of this company is done that is sad but it is what it is, if it is true that they are not answering e mails or even answering their phones or returning calls that is a much more troubling turn of events.
Up until recently Vince and others that were left manning the phones have been telling people that it was still ok to send in units for repair, if the people that believed them and sent in their detectors get screwed or even the ones that already had sent in detectors before they laid off everybody then this is going to be a huge black mark on their legacy.
I hope it isn't true, they were never good at answering e mails and it is possible having only a skeleton crew left they might not be there every day to answer all the calls still coming in but to totally cut off all communication with their customer base, especially those that have products bought and paid for still sitting in their factory waiting to be repaired and not get back to them in a timely manner is not good.
Not good at all.
I hope things work out, I hope they survive even as a smaller company or get bought out by another company that can still keep manufacturing at least some of their more popular models but we will have to wait and see.
I definitely hope that everyone that sent in detectors for repair get them back, repaired or not.
Vince needs to deal with this repair stuff and quickly if he wants to keep any good will this company still has left.
I hope he does.
