Any news on Tesoro?

According to the "TESORO Metal Detectors" group on Facebook, someone did manage to get ahold of Vince Gifford by phone and was told that they are still honoring warranties and doing repair work. This was pretty recent -- past week or so.

They are not answering phone calls or emails so not sure how anyone will be able to talk to them about a warranty issue. Several people have said they sent their detector in before the shut down for repairs and haven't been able to reach anyone to find out the repair status or get their detector back.

It sounds like they are *occasionally* answering calls, but it's a crap-shoot. I'm just passing on what I read on the Facebook group, though.

I have read the same.

I can confirm that tesoro is still open and doing warranty repairs. Ive spoken to Vince a couple times since the first part of december about my silver I sent in for minor repairs. Last time I spoke with him was a month ago. Yes, it is VERY hard to get a hold of them(you just have to call and call and call throughout the day) and work proceeds very very slow. I asked Vince some quick questions about the status of the company, the future, and estimated turnaround time for repairs but he is pretty tight lipped. Sounds like he may be one of the few or only workers left there. Sounds to me like its taking 2 months or so for repair turnaround time. Hopefully I will get my umax back here at the end of this month. If not, I'll be calling again. A bit frustrating but oh well. Though meanwhile, I bought a new to me outlaw and am having a blast with it :) So yeah, the situation over there is not good but they are still open.

happy to know they haven't "kicked" yet!
phoenix rising form the ashes! hope to be!

(h.h.!)

If I can find time, I'll get on Google Earth Streetview and call some of Tesoro's neighbors....

Update:
I sent out one email to start and got a nice letter back. I didn't think I should publish the letter but it basically says what's been covered here, most of the staff are gone, a few remain.

Saw today on FB where a guy got his Silver Umax back yesterday from warranty repairs. Said it took a little over 2 months.

Correct. I got my silver back saturday the 9th after 2months and 10 days. Sounds like that is about the average turn around time for warranty repairs right now. I just wish they would come out with some sort of statement about the future. Tesoros silence isnt doing them any favors with a lot of folks. Glad to have my little work horse back and Im loving my new-to-me outlaw so far! Im still sticking with tesoro.

An idea if it hasn't been posted yet, contribute and build a list of those who can service Tesoros?

I've spoke with Pentechnic, they can do repairs and modifications. He said the older models weigh too much in which the postage is too high, but the newer models, postage is reasonable.

They are a UK company, IIRC? I don’t mind sending my units over the pond. Having said that, I’d really like to have someone servicing them stateside for convenience. Building a list is a good idea; if we can compile one.
Not that I’m having any issues!

Called Rusty from Tesoro today. Long time repair guy and seller of Tesoro detectors. The company is done. Told all employees to go home. Doors are closed for good. From what Rusty knows only one person left trying to honor all repairs. So sad.☹️

They should have sold out before laying everyone off. They would have gotten a pretty penny for that operation.

It would be nice if another company bought them and brought them into the future with newer technology.

No way am I parting with my Tejon. I'll send it around the world for repairs first. Too fun to use.

Sadly, there was likely nothing worth buying - low sales - shrinking distribution network - no valuable technology.

My Vaquero running discrimination will identify high value targets deeper than my F75 with the latest upgrades running discrimination.

And almost half the weight using a 9v battery.

I think there is some value with the tech and name, if fisher or whites could buy them up they would be better off for it. The tejon, vaquero, and lobo need simple upgrades for todays market. A good vdi is really what most people want with the depth those machines already have plus the unique tone.
