I agree, it's a marching band shako. The mark BAYL-STRON was officially filed as a trademark by J. W. BAYLY & SON, INC. HOLLYWOOD, FL on 29 Jan 1962 with it's first use in commerce at 15 Mar 1957. It expired 25 years later in '87.
