average age of detectorist

started in 1973, used a friends green compass detector at the beach
don't get to detect a lot, back problems at 74, springs on the way, I
hope I will be able swing a little then, working on a new permission.

thanks for all the post, marion

I'm still pushing five.:tongue3:

I'm 41. Started at 37. Sometimes I cry myself to sleep imagining all the stuff I could have found if I had been detecting earlier in life.

The "average" metal detectorist is a 37 - 67- year-old white male, High School education, a "Blue Collar" job averaging $55,000 - $70,000.00 annually. :skullflag:
You notice that crusty Soloman left out his age?

Started out at 13 with a radio crap. Took some time off when life got in the way. Got back into it a few years ago. I am 56 now.

Statistically, I am only a year or two shy of my turn to push up the daisies!

I am 51 I think or 52 I can't remember. But that is not the issue today, its the digging. Oh how I wish I were 10 years old again with a shovel and a pick and could dig to China before lunch. I started at around 10 years old with a Radio Shack that I purchased at a yard sale and had to save money for batteries. I never really found anything but nails and pop tops and pennies until I got a better machine and a pin pointer. It is always nice when I can get my son out with me. I swing, he digs. Its glorious

My wife says I act like a teenager, does that count ? And I apologize to all you teenagers ahead of time.

I'm 27. No one in my immediate friend circle (other than my brother) detects. I know of a few people in the greater city of Seattle who are under 40 and detect but that's it. Mostly 40s-70s I'd think.

I'm 37 and have been detecting for 10 years. My habit has outlasted two wives. I have been arrowhead hunting and collecting coins since I was 6.

58, I got a detector 20 years ago but just puttered around a bit with it, didn't start seriously into this hobby until 2 1/2 years ago.

In 1967 I was a terrible archery shot. I lost 5 Aluminum arrows in that. In The spring I bought va Orion detector (about $30.00) Went looking for my lost arrows . Never FOUND a Arrow. Do remember finding a old pocket knife. Been detecting off and on since then. Last 30 years have been more determined.

I am soon to be 73

Be 70 on July 4 this year - may as well be admitting to 70 now, certainly feel 70 or 80 this morning, started detecting in '83. Dad made it to 87 and Mom will be 93 next month. I may get older, certainly felt it this morning :(
