Just turned 60 but have been detecting since I was 14 not like it use to be. In the old days is was who could fill up a sandwich bag first with gold rings. That's long gone!
I'm 62 bought a detector in 85 and tried it a little and then got too busy with work and other things. Bought a new machine last year and started playing round with it.
65 in July, started in early 70's with a $29 machine, put it away after a couple years and gave it away about 15 years ago. Bought a tracker 4 about 10 years ago and been going strong since then.

Damn gold boy you a young buck. I wish I would’ve discovered this hobby at your age it would have saved me from a lot of heartache. You’re gonna have such great memories and one hell of a collection.
I’m 49 and I’ve been detecting for 5 years. I got in a battle with the IRS and they took my fishing license away, so I bought a metal detector. The IRS won I paid them MY money got my license back but haven’t fished since.
Started in '81 with a White's 5000D. Lost interest in a couple of years. Bought a Garret Ace to check logs for my sawmill a couple of years ago. Took it out in the yard and found a nickel. Ding! Bought a Garret AT Pro and now I'm back at it. Or will be if the weather ever breaks. Gary
