If the treasure is real or not, what did the Beale ciphers give us?

People focused into history of a particular area
People focused into ciphers of a particular area
People focused into Cartography of a particular area
Etc.

People wasting a ton of money
People wasting a ton of time
People trespassing on and digging up private property
Etc.
Those are all good points

The economic history of a particular area & who owns what in a particular area

As a researcher, local cop, Intelligence Agency officer, etc. you have to be good at investigation to build your case.

Uncovering power players/secret societies/mystery within a particular area, you have to find a chink in one's armor.

Best places to look are where stuff doesn't add up...feels off, like a glitch in the matrix etc.

" 'Twilight language' concerns, from psychology, the hidden significance of locations, dates, and other signs; from religious studies, the hidden symbolism that lies in the texture of the incidents; and, from criminology, the profiling insights that have revealed the ritualistic nature of certain crimes and violent incidents...

"...But two elements of this 'twilight language' are becoming rather clearer as we examine this whole arena. The copycat effect can work through the power and pull over vulnerable and angry human beings through the specific locations where these incidents happen as well as the timing of them. Place and time, locations and dates, milieu and moment are hiding in plain sight."
(The Copycat Effect, pg. 237-238)

I will share one example (with very brief overview) where something in a particular area of Virginia/Beale Codes feels off

The Bridgewater shooting that took place at Smith Mountain Lake in 2015

What About Bob? 1991 film plot and filming location

In Roman mythology, Moneta (Latin Monēta) was a title given to two separate goddesses: It was the name of the goddess of memory (identified with the Greek goddess Mnemosyne), and it was an epithet of Juno, called Juno Moneta (Latin Iūno Monēta). The latter's name is the source of numerous words in English and the Romance languages, including “money" and "mint".

Active shooter drill at NRV malls helps police prepare

Kirsten Lambertsen

Published: April 13, 2015 at 10:37 PM

CHRISTIANSBURG (WSLS 10) - More than 250 first-responders converged on the New River Valley Mall Sunday for an active shooter drill.

There were around 10 police and emergency response agencies represented at the training exercise. It was one of the largest joint training sessions in recent years, and the first to take place at the mall.

During the drill, two gunmen opened fire. A 911 call was placed, and teams of police officers from six different agencies responded. They pursued the shooters and took them down.

The teams also attended to dozens of wounded. Role players were staged around the mall with makeup that simulated gunshot wounds.

Police officers practiced securing each store and moving mall patrons to safety. The drill lasted more than three hours to make the experience as realistic as possible.

TV Shooting Survivor Vicki Gardner Speaks Out | TODAY

Comment section is eye opening but I will just post one of them

"Please people, stop and think about what you are being told by the media. Does this sound like an interview with a survivor from a shooting or a promo for Smith Mountain Lake? Watch any other interviews with Vicki or her husband on YouTube and ask yourself if the story adds up. Especially see the interview with Greta Van Susteren where the husband says he was watching TV that morning and saw the transmission cut off and knew that the sounds he heard were gunshots. He then tried to call his wife but received no answer, then he tried to text his wife but to no avail. Then did he immediately jump into his car and head for Smith Mountain Lake? No. He then received a call from the mother of a first responder telling him that two people were dead but she didn't know or relate their identities to the husband. Really? Less than 15 minutes after the incident happened on TV, the mother of a first responder calls the husband? Not knowing if Vicki is one of the dead, does the husband now jump into his car and race to Smith Mountain Lake? No. He calls the owner of the plaza. Then 15 minutes after the incident started he receives a call from Vicki, from the ambulance that she walked to after suffering a gunshot wound that would cause her to lose a kidney and part of her colon. Now does the husband race to the hospital to be by her side. No. He cleans the kitchen first and arrives at the hospital too late to see her before she goes into surgery. This is a lot to take, especially after the media trotted out Andy Parker who discussed gun legislation with the governor and did multiple interviews promoting changes to gun regulations on the same day and several days after his daughter Alison was reportedly murdered. Please investigate this for yourself and come to your own conclusions, but I have viewed both sets of footage from the shooting and have seen many interviews and I can not accept any of this as being true."

Here are 3 questions that I’ve been thinking about lately.

1) Why after burying the cache in Lynchburg did TJB need to go back to STL?

2) If 30 adventurers from Lynchburg went to Santa Fe, why did all but 10 stay behind?

3) Why did an “unknown traveler” with a big time name in Virginia, like Beale, need to vet Robert Morriss for months and stay in his hotel for months if he lived in the area?

I am also interested in the order of the ciphers TJB gives us. In the Jan 4th letter, he says the three papers will be as follows: The Contents, The vault, the heirs. The contents he names first, just so happens to be the first one cracked. I believe it is an engineered solve based on the liberties taken to make it work and when you run cryptographic tests on it, it shouldn’t work as a book cipher but it does. If it was engineered, did TJB already know the first one would be cracked? Now, looking at that order and the solve for B2, at the end of that solve, it mentions again that paper 1 will get you the vault. No mention of the heirs. The Jan 5th letter, all that is discussed is the heirs. Curious way to speak about them when B1 is the vault, B2 is the contents, and B3 is the heirs.

Here are my answers...
1. The fastest and most well known route to santa fe is from stl and thr last big town to gather supplies and horses/mules.
2. I believe your question is incorrect.
When they decided to return and bury the cache, all 30 men left together for 100 miles at which point, 10 continued to Bufords and 20 returned to the mine.
3. TB was from western Virginia and probably didn't know Robert Morriss. Robert Morriss was recommended by another member of the party for TB to vet.
TB didn't stay months in Lynchburg to vet Robert Morriss but rather the trail through the Appalachians
was incredibly brutal, slow, and dangerous.

1) I agree St. Louis is the final outpost. The question remains. Why did TJB make the second deposit in December of 1821, drop off the box to Robert Morriss, and then say he’d write to him from St. Louis?

-On my return I found the work still progressing favorably, and, by making large accessions to our force of laborers, I was ready to return last Fall with an increased supply of metal, which came through safely and was deposited with the other. It was at this time I handed you the box, not disclosing the nature of its contents, but asking you to keep it safely till called for. I intend writing you, however, from St. Louis, and impress upon you its importance still more forcibly.

Second deposit was in

2) If these are Virginia men, and the metal is already on the road to Virginia, why do twenty of them ride five hundred miles east and then go back west to the mine instead of going home?

Nothing more is being buried on that trip except what the ten are carrying. The twenty are not a rear guard on the Bedford side. They are choosing the ravine over their own counties.

A literal party of Virginians has no good reason for that. Men who live on the river, and whose “mine” is a story, do. That’s my take.

3) How do we know TJB is from western Virginia? We have never found a Thomas J. Beale — or even a Thomas Beale — who is in the right place at the right time. “Western Virginia” is a guess. The pamphlet never says it. It says Virginians, “old Virginia,” and Buford’s in Bedford. That is not a hometown west of the Ridge, and it is not a documented man.

, why do twenty of them ride five hundred miles east and then go back west to the mine
Because after 500 miles the 10 men would be iut of danger and safe to continue on there own.
) How do we know TJB is from western Virginia?
Because Robert Morriss said he sign the register from Virginia and he thought he was from western Virginia.

Such a man was Thomas J. Beale, as he appeared in 1820, and in his subsequent visit to my house. He registered simply from Virginia, but I am of the impression he was from some western portion of the State

If you are pursuing the Beale legend, one must believe it to be true.
If you believe it to be true, then you must believe that something TB said or did gave Robert Morriss the impression that TB was from western Virginia.

The key word is FROM. How would someone determine where a person is from: clothes, accent, word use, stories, etc? So the question becomes...if TB actually came from the eastern part of Virginia, could he be mistaken as a westerner?

In 1820, an aristocrat from eastern Virginia was often called a "Tuckahoe".
a wealthy person from western Virginia was called a "Cohee".
Eastern virginians grew tobacco using slaves. Western Virginins grew wheat without slaves. The TB i proposed in another thread came from Fincastle where the cash crop was wheat.
So Robert Morriss's impression could have first from dialect and since TB was there several months , Robert Morriss may have heard a story or two of his farming/work habits.

Remember, of the ten men who traveled to Bufords, only two traveled on to Richmond. This seems to indicate, 8 of the 10 were from west of Lynchburg and used to manual labor such as mining.

Fair points. I just think we’re putting more weight on Morriss’s impression than the story can bear.

He says Beale registered from Virginia, and that he thought he was from the western part of the state. That’s an impression. It isn’t a county, and it isn’t a documented man. Tuckahoe vs Cohee, wheat vs tobacco, Fincastle, dialect, those are interesting, but they aren’t in the letter. They’re a way of explaining the impression after the fact. An innkeeper can guess wrong.

Same with the split. After 500 miles, twenty men turn back. The letter doesn’t say they were then out of danger, doesn’t say they were going back to work, doesn’t say eight of the ten lived west of Lynchburg, and doesn’t say only two went on to Richmond. Those may turn out to be right, but they’re fillers. What we actually have is 2/3 of a Virginia party turning around while the metal keeps going toward Virginia. They found generational wealth and 2/3 of them went back west vs go home with their golden parachute?!

And after the second burial he hands Morriss the box, tells him to wait ten years, then writes from St. Louis and heads for the plains again. I’m not saying that can’t be made to work. I’m saying the letter never spells out why a Virginia company would do it that way. That’s the part I’m still stuck on.

Here is how i do research...
1. I study the story extensively.
2. I then identify the weak areas of the story and research whether it is possible or not.
For example: you asked how could Robert Morriss got the impression TB was from western VA? Good question!

So i researched it and there was a real distinction between wealthy easterners and westerners...Tuckahoe vs Cohee.
So it is quite possible that Robert Morriss, being a hotel manager and meeting many travelers, would be able to distinguish between the two. So personally, that is good enough for me. Had google AI indicated one could not distinguish between east and west then i agree with you. But it didn't indicate that.

That’s an impression. It isn’t a county,
Fincastle county is the only county west of Lynchburg so when you say someone is from western Va they are from Fincastle county.

With regards to 500 miles...

The whole party were to accompany me for the first five hundred miles, when all but ten would return [20 return to the mine]., these latter to remain with me to the end of the journey [10 traveled on to Bufords]. All was carried out as arranged, and I arrived safely with my charge.

I put my interpretation in brackets [].
TB and two other men arrived in Lynchburg and registered with Robert Morriss. The other two continued on to Richmond.
Although an assumption, it makes sense to me, if any of the other 7 were from the east they too would have traveled with TB to Lynchburg. The story also indicated that they all had frequented Bufords and they knew of the cave where they initially planned to hide the cache. So its not unreasonable to think that 8 of the 10 were from fincastle.

Why all 30 vs 10...
Previous threads/posts clearly identified there was danger from the Spanish.
500 miles placed them beyond Spanish patrols but the 10 would still have to travel through Indian territory.

We know the 20 men returned to continue working the mine because two years they deposited a second cache.

Its reasonable to conclude the 30 men were not goig to be happy until the mine ran out, thus thhe reason for a third trip back to the mine.
Here's a reason why TB left the locked box with Robert Morriss.
The Santa Fe Trail was opened in 1821. That meant there were more travelers through Indian territory.

Google AI...Yes, conflicts and raids along the Santa Fe Trail increased over time as commercial traffic grew and permanently disrupted indigenous homelands.

Therefore TB may have thought the third trip was going to be more dangerous than past trips because of these raids.
