I figured this might of interest to some of you. Be careful out there.

Not only are coin shops subject to be robbed but everyone on this forum too. Any pro thief can gather enough info from anyone here & you can be robbed in your car, your home, etc. Then on top of it we post pics of our finds & tell the world how much silver we have along with disclosing all kinds of other pertinent personal info. Its just a matter of time before someone will get robbed, especially in this day & age & with the economy the way it is. So start exercising caution & think before you post. There is a guy who buys & sells gold at a flea market & someone followed him, held him at gun point & stole all his gold. Trust no one, even if you think you are among friends. I fear things are only going to get worse so just be more aware of what you're doing. Think man think!

I used to preach against safe deposit boxes. My logic was that they can take it away whenever they want. It is out of your control. However, I've since changed my tune.

I now store tons of stuff in one. Documents, Ag, even an old non-functional revolver. I didn't think they would let me keep the pistol in the vault, but they didn't have any problem with it at all - that surprised me. I am very close to getting a second one or bigger one. It is only $29 per year.

I have all my silver save for a few rolls worth in my SDB. Good investment to make, even at $80/year... far more secure there than anywhere at home.

That's good advice, trust no one. My place is basically a fort. along with having a means of protecting myself, I have hidden surveillance equipment that uploads video wirelessly to a remote location. So, even if someone did manage to overpower me (which is unlikely), they would be captured on video and hopefully caught. That's plan A, I also have plans B and C, which I won't give away

Safety deposit boxes are the safest way to go in normal circumstances. However, in emergency/panic scenarios, I'm sure you can think of a few, people may not be around to get access to the boxes. This may not be likely to happen, but it's definitely a possibility and should at least be considered as a downside to them.

the local coin shop I used to deal with had a baseball bat, pepper spray and an old 6 or 8-shot revolver. NEVER mess with them people, especially with tens of thousands of dollars on the line.

I've dealt with them for years and years, I then discovered ebay and coin shows and realized how expensive their prices were!

I lost all my silver and guns in a boating accident last weekend. Man, wish I had used safety deposit boxes. Oh well.

I've dealt with them for years and years, I then discovered ebay and coin shows and realized how expensive their prices were!

Well armed and determined thieves would destroy that place in 10 seconds. They should consider hiring a competent security firm. The shop in my parts has 3-5 armed guards posted at all times.

Couple years back a coin store near my work was robbed by two men. The owner shot both of them and they fled out the door with two large bags of silver coins. Ended-up with scattering coins all over the road, due to their distress. They were caught there and one later died.
