BHID max depth

What kind of depth are the BHIDs getting on the beach?

I remember reading a while back about a way to significantly increase the depth of the BHID in all metal mode. It is supposed to run the machine in silent mode but depth is greatly increased. I don't remember all the details. Does anyone know how this is done and has anyone tried it?

HES HAS POSTED THEM THERE BEFORE!! ..........I RUN IN ALL METAL......BARELY A HUM OF THRESH HOLD...GROUND BALANCE JUST BELOW 1/2 WAY...SENSITIVITY BETWEEN "P" AND MAXED OUT OR HIGHER....DIG ANY LIGHT OR MIXED LIGHT...THAT HAS NO "RED"...NO MATTER HOW WEAK/FAINT OR BROKEN ...NO RED..... DIG IT!! YOU'LL GET THE DEEP GOLD/COINS/CHAINS ECT...AND GO SLOW!!!! SWING SLOW SCRUB THE SAND WITH COIL!!!

I think this is what you're asking about. This was found from a post a while ago:

Beach hunter ID , Tip for significantly increasing depth!

1. turn on BHID & go through the normal set up (steps 2 through 4
2.set sens to pre-set with mode switch in disc mode
3. turn threshold control to faint threshold
4.set mode switch to all metal mode & ground balance machine normally
5.after ground balancing & while still in the all metal mode turn sens to max. the threshold will change to a high shrill.
6.hit the reset to return to normal threshold.
7.return to the all metal mode & re-do the ground balance. there will be a narrower window within which to balance at this time.
8.leave the mode switch in all metal mode & begin hunting. there will be a marked improvement in depth.
9. NOTE. there will no longer be tone identification between the targets. however the target identification lights will still be accurate.

Two questions:

- Has anyone tried this and how much depth improvement did you get?

- If there is no sound over targets, only lights, does it mean you have to be looking at the LEDs to realize you went over a target?

Moe,

I have tried this and it does work. It definitely makes the machine run a little hotter and deeper (I can't say how much but it works).

You don't lose the sound, only the multi-tone as you're running in all metal with the single tone (still will target id with the lights)!

While super tuning the BHID will get you alittle more depth, an inch maybe, enough to make a find you wouldn't have known about other wise, the lack of real discrimination also has you wasting time digging trash. The lights on the BHID aren't accurate at depth anyway and you will be leaving good targets in the ground thinking they were iron. I know, I gave my BHID to my brother in law because I didn't like it it's lack of real depth and proper id

I've got no issues using the "all metal mode" and find the target id to work well. If you get an "iffy" good signal and approach it from different angles while carefully listening to the tones, you can get the lights to quickly blip on the red showing a bad target. I test dig some targets and find the target id to work on the machine. The depth is very good in "all metal" for a VLF and I do like the super fast recovery of the detector and being able to hunt at high speeds around the beach (just my thoughts)! If I'm going to be hunting in deeper water I grab my Infinium as nothing comes close to its performance (IMHO) for me. I also now run a CZ20 and have added a CZ6A (land and dry sand) to my never ending collection (LOL)! One other thing, I also installed my favorite Killer B headphones (made them somewhat water resistant) on the BHID. I'm also sending the detector out for the new Super 12" spider coil as I've been told it gives more stable performance with depth increases up to 30% over the stock coil.

Sandman...I hunt side by side with guys who use EXCAL'S + EXSPLORER'S

I truly see no difference in our finds...In all metal my ID lights work and are correct to a very good depth....on the beach all you want to DISC out is "IRON" any RED lights or combination of RED mixed with any other color has IRON in it...So do not dig....I don't know what you mean by having dig to much trash with the B.H.ID?? If you want to get lots of gold you must dig every yellow or green ID lighted target...There is one thing my buddie's with EXCALS + EXSPLORERS .do get much more of than I do is BREAK DOWNS!! last week my buddies excal's head set stopped working in the middle of a hunt...it had just been serviced not 6 mos ago..Another buddie who uses A EXSPLORER also had his detector repaired in the beginig of summer...it broke again 2 weeks ago.. these guys hunt much less than I do...I put 100's of hours a year on my detector NO PROBLEMS!!!

I went out a total of 13 times last year with my brand new b.h.i.d and found 5 gold rings a fat silver necklace, a couple nice jewelery items. And a couple silver rings............13 times!.........dont' let anyone fool you, the bhid is a great machine. I hunted with mine just in the stock program and didn't even hunt in all metal mode and still did this well my first year. Not to mention all the coins i found. I had a crappy shovel and that is the only reason i had to quit last year.

I now have the stainless scoop from nuttall enterprises and will probably never have to buy another scoop. I paid for this scoop with my first year of detecting's gold rings..............

Can't wait for summer here in michigan.

Thanks for all the responses! This is great information. I have had my BHID for 6 months and I have come to really like it. It is a very good machine. I have never used an Excal so I cannot compared but did use the Fisher CZD and Whites PI before for beach. The BHID is pretty reliable in all metal mode with the LED lights.

I agree with Beach-Hunter in my findings about the BHID.

Personally, I have never dugged a target that showed Red LED that was not iron related. I find the RED light to be extremely accurate. A while back I dugged some foreign coins (Bolivars) that showed as Green, yellow, and red LED on my BHID. I dugged these ones because the sound was like a coin tone. The Yellow LED is 50-50% accurate with a range of metals including gold, alum, foil, to some iron related. The Green LED is highly accurate 75-90% for coins, pennies, silver, lead, alum cans, etc.

I still haven't sent out the BHID for the new coil (LOL)

as I keep taking it out to detect!!! I was about to send it out "again" but my friend just shipped his machine out for service and will be using the BHID this weekend (LOL)!!!!!

Yes, the dual frequencies are working with the new coil!!!!

Beach Hunter has posted some very nice results and comments with the new coil and I can't wait to have mine installed!!!

I really do like the BHID and will always have it around!!!

Beach Hunter or Indasurf,

Is the single tone that you get sort of dull or high pitch?

Should the SENS be set at max after the Reset button?
