Big cats in East TN

I have to wonder if a place like Tiger Haven or an individual would report a cat missing due to the liability?
NC, SC, AL, and other states has no restrictions and if they have one illegally it wouldn't be on record anyway.

I believe the Black Panther I saw has a high possibility of being a "pet" or from a small cat shelter... but I have no way to really know.
I do know it wasn't a black Great Dane!:laughing7:

Hey, Kuger... I don't remember if I said, but... the cougar on Signal Mountain did have it's claws and wasn't under weight.

Coyote Spills the Stars

In the beginning days when all came up from the underworld a huge gathering was planned, uniting all the four-leggeds and flyers. At this meeting Our Mother selected a human being to take a jar of stars, hang them in the sky and name them for all to enjoy.

Coyote was very interested in what was going on, but being a wiggler and trickster then as he is no, Our Mother turned to him and said “Do not make mischief here!”

The human being was busy, placing the stars in ordered patterns upon the sky…Seven Stars here and the three Pot Rest Stars there. When he had placed the beautiful Morning Star he stood back and admired his work, as did all the rest.

While everyone including Our Mother was gathered to gaze at the luminous Morning Star, Coyote tiptoed over to the jar of stars to see for himself what the man was doing. As he lifted the jar’s lid just a little, the stars rose to the occasion, pushed the lid away and raced for the sky. This is the reason so many twinkle without order or pattern, and why so many are not named.

Our Mother was angry with Coyote, and said that because of his mischief with the stars Coyote would forever be a wanderer and bring trouble with him wherever he may go. That some days he could be happy and abundant, but other days he would see unhappiness and hunger.

If you see a BLACK GREAT DANE out in the wilderness at night.....who would ever expect to see such a thing ? To see one on a city street being taken for a walk ...we are used to that. But if you saw one out of place ...in a totally different enviroment that you would never expect....it IS SCARY ! Because they look like The Devil.... and the one i saw had a RED EYE ...swear to God ...and I saw him on his RED EYE SIDE... I will bet you a thousand dollars... we will go to Camp Ocoee and find somebody that remembers THAT DOG !! Oh , I Left something out. Rumor has it that during those years when our Florida friends were ravaged by huricane after huricane ...I hear a number of big cats moved up into Georgia. I'm 10 miles from the state line. We have big cats here. I dont care what anybody says.

not to dispute the great dane story. I have worked with naked supermodels in rooms. If I saw one at night in the wilderness I think I would figure it out. Just my opinion.

...Pippin...I have killed thousands of Coyotes for The Navajo nation.....hypocrytes?No,when it comes down to your livelihood, you manage your predator population

as do I ( kill predators I mean) every year I kill hundreds of mosquitos

....make no mistake,I dont take great joy in killing, and respect all life.I just understand the circle of life, and try and mesh man into what we have to do to co-exist.I have no illusions of a fairy land where all is at peace, and running through the clover together. If there were no man...there would be no wild life issues.....and there is no human population control so we must control wildlife

.......but not Black ones!

I want to point out too, that lions are very conscience of their well being...not wanting to be injured. This trait is very evident in studying there methods of prey take.As I said,I have never or recall witnessing where a lion killed an adult wild hog(not saying they would not,but given the fact I have spent years studying their habits and kills, one would presume if they habitually preyed on hogs,a person would see this)as far as young pigs...piglets,mamma pig is seldom far away, and comes real quick when little pigs are distressed(I have scars to prove this)Lions are not dumb animals and would quickly learn this fact, and by their nature would not make habit of having to deal with a situation that would run a high chance of great injury.

When I lived in West Virginia, Coyotes were responsible for thousands (yes, I said thousands and not hundreds) of Sheep kills and who knows how many Cattle and especially Calf kills. A friend that owned lots of land, Sheep and Cattle eventually sold off all of his' Sheep and Cattle and began growing Feed crops due to his losses of Sheep and Cattle to Coyotes. He told me that he usually moved 150 head of Sheep to high mountain meadows in the Spring and would move them back to the property near his' barn in the Fall. Most of Sheep were close to giving birth when moved to the high mountain meadows in the Spring and with no losses, he should have had 250+ Sheep in the Fall. However, almost every year when they herded them from the high mountain meadows in the Fall, he would only have 50 or 60 head of Sheep left as all of the others had been killed by Coyotes. It got so bad and without any help or compensation from the West Virginia DNR, the West Virginia Sheep Breeders Association recruited and paid for a young man to attend College and get a degree in Wildlife Management and Biology. This young man graduated and eventually landed a job at the WVDNR Headquarters in Charleston, WV where he searched files and emails to the WVDNR's involvement in bringing Coyotes to West Virginia. Well, he finally found an email trail to their (the WV DNR's) involvement, turned the evidence over to the West Virginia Sheep Herders Association and they quickly took the WV DNR to court and won compensation for past losses, compensation for future losses and a ruling which requires the WV DNR to supply and maintain poison bait stations on Farm/Ranches that breed and raise considerable head of both Sheep and Cattle. Sadly, my friend died before ever receiving any compensation for his losses over many, many years of breeding and raising both Sheep and Cattle!

I live on the edge of the city in Jefferson City, Tennesse and the two fields near my' home (one borders and the other is across the highway) have anywhere from 50 to 100 Coyotes in each of them. I have lost many cats over the years and I cannot let my grandchildren walk around the property at night or even venture to the back of my' property during the day due to the threat of Coyote attacks. Something has to be done about them as they breed and drop pups like rabbits and every year, there are more and more of them in these same fields that I mentioned above. Also, there is hardly any wild game left in this area due to the Coyotes.

ok...why on earth is any government agency responsible for predation among domesticated flocks?
why on earth should a rancher sue the government for damages both past an future?...and win???? outlandish.
this is where the term welfare ranchers comes from...

{geeze, I sound all republican here?}
