I have seen an arrow head or two from this spot on the salish sea.

Are the photos clear enough? What the heck is this? Thanks!

So if it's a rolling pin, then it's marble? not as hard as quartz? Still pretty neat to find.

i think the smooth hole in the middle is the give away....measure it and compare it to a marble rolling pin, they sell them all over...I even have one.

Just did a scratch test: my quarts point digs in like butter- therefore, not quartz.
The smooth inner hole being smooth as a babies backside is, indeed, the sign.

I sincerely appreciate the input! I did find some nice agate, so i have that, which is nice.

What's that in the center? The piece looks like marble to me like its a core from a drill
I see! It does resemble marble. They grey veins are commonly seen in marble. Drilling marble is also easy. The close up pic. Still looks like quartz. I have a marble ash trey that has been outside for years. The weathering on this piece is not like the weathering on my ash trey. I'll try to post a pic, I can't really describe the differences. Original poster, are you certain this isn't marble? One way to determine is by temperature. Marble will always be 3-5 degrees cooler than any other mineral of similarity. Granite for instance, will be warmer than marble, as will quartz. In most instances one can simply touch marble, and notice it is cooler. This is an interesting piece!

I honestly think it started out more like this before many years in the ocean polished it into what it looks like now <img src="http://www.treasurenet.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=1077392"/>
Good call Gator! Exactly what I had in mind. Marble is a must in making certain foods. Taffy is one in particular. Taffy must be cooled on a marble slab. Once on the marble slab, it is rolled like biscuit doe. My grandmother doesn't use a marble rolling pin on her taffy. However, I bet she would if she had one. I think gator has wrapped this one up!!

A little late to the party, but having been a cook all my life, that was my very fist thought (marble rolling pin). Good one Gator. And yessiree- far better than sea glass, in my opinion! Very cool find. Yakker

That was a neat one if you ask me I like the unexpected things like that keeps everyone fresh

Didn't know you were in the food business yakker! So am I. I was a cook for about 7 years.(no culinary schooling) I started working in food processing when I was four years old. (Literally, my whole life) I'm still here making a cheese spread/dip for a company started by my dad. Fun work! Hard work!! Work that takes both brains and back!! Lol!
