These are from inside a wall. I assume it was a crime. The house was built in 1889. There was a window removed and a door put in as some point in the early 1900's. You can see where the window was from the outside of the building. There were a few more things in the wall that lead me to believe that these are from after 1900. the plaster was removed for the wall but the lath was still there. Behind the lath was what looked like dirt so I thought it might be from an old animal nest. I ripped the lath out and started to find things. When I first found a bone, it was small and I thought it was a chicken bone but I jokingly thought it was human, then I found more.

I also found some lead balls that I am positive are buckshot from a shot gun!

I keep thinking that these can't be human but then I think, why where they in the wall? Some are definitely cut. No would would cut up an animal and put their bones 8-10 feet up the wall behind the plaster. And, again, there is no way they would have come from the second floor because it is solid wood between floors.

nothing there looks human to me, but it could be.

I found a bundle burial in a rock shelter once, nothing looked human until I unearthed a human tooth, then things became clear.

Just when I think I've heard everything....... Imagine building a new home, and throwing a few dead animals in the walls.:icon_scratch:

some people have weird customs.

I still wouldn't rule out chicken bones,
if a former resident believed in Voodoo.

doesn't look like enough to be a whole animal.
the large one I can't place with a small animal though

The big one is a beef bone. Probably stashed by a rat or other animal.

I find stashes like that in the walls of old houses all the time down here, it's most likely left behind by a rat. We opened a wall to replace the framing around a window last week and found a pile of chicken bones, acorns and an oyster shell. Rats are pretty industrious and if they want something they'll find a way to get it. The buckshot is kind of odd though......

I would tend to agree; pack rat. Does the buckshot have teeth small animal teeth marks on the?

In the late 1990s my father who is in the medical field was called in to do a kind of archaeology type thing of a 18th century child that was buried behind a house under a un-marked rock. I was able to tag along with him and the bones you have i can say are def. not child or human..

I considered the idea of a rat, but 2 things makes me think that's not it. There are no teeth marks on the bones. There was also no evidence of a rat, no chew marks on the surrounding wood. I once had a rat get in my place and there was so much damage. I moved some drywall in the upstairs and there is a spot that has been chewed up. That's hard not to miss.

The first bunch of bones is what had me thinking a small child/infant but then I found that large bone. I spent way too much time online looking at bones. I don't know. The BIG thing, the shotgun buck?

In england they used to bury dead relatives under the house. Many of those old thatched roof cottages have dead folks under them.

The custom ended about 200 years ago.
